The daughter of Rarity and Fluttershy, Splendid was born alongside Cloudy Kiss, the perfect pair of a unicorn and a Pegasus, and despite their differences, the two of them got along wonderfully. Born only a few days apart, the two of them were best friends, but over time, something became apparent: Cloudy was undoubtedly better than Splendid could ever hope to be. Splendid struggled her entire childhood with separation anxiety, bad eyesight, and an inability to work with her heavy, oversized wings. Her mothers were often away, saving the world, and she spent a majority of her time clinging to her adoptive sister, Thistle Switch, or her twin Cloudy. She often struggled to gain the attention of her busy parents or make friends on her own, despite the encouragement of her family -she instead followed along with whatever Thistle or Cloudy was doing without question, completely codependent.

Everything changed, however, when it turned out that Thistle and Cloudy were moving forward without her. Thistle’s romance with Cookie Thimble took her attention away from Splendid, something that was deeply hurtful to her. Cloudy, meanwhile, displayed extremally powerful magic, earning her a one-way trip to the Canterlot Academy to train under Twilight Sparkle herself: something that Splendid was both jealous and terrified of. Wishing to avoid abandonment, Splendid attempted to train herself well enough to join the Pegasus equivalent of the program: the Wonderbolts. She did not succeed, and she envied Cloudy’s magical prowess, something that earned her attention from Rarity and Twilight while she felt ignored in comparison. She wanted to be a unicorn. She wished she could trade in her wings and replace them with magic, with power, with splendor that would make someone notice her.

Her fear of abandonment slowly turned to resentment, espesically as one day, Cloudy’s horn was broken off in an “Accident” and Cloudy eagerly changed her name to Sonic Rainboom and began competitively racing, without even a thought of the privilege she had, of what she had given up. Splendid has since drifted away from her loved ones, in favor of studying. Studying what? She doesn’t mention it exactly; just the study of magical history, of powerful sorcerers, of transmutation. Her wings have been losing feathers, shadows are drawn under her eyes, she is planning something, but she won’t reveal what.
