Description
collaboration with *srgioBoth of us love to draw Adriana Lima, so we picked out a reference photo and he drew it in pencil. He took a picture of his drawing, and then sent the photo of his work to me to color digitally.
This turned out really differently from the way that I'd planned on doing it. I was going to make it more stylized, with a purplish color scheme. I opened up his drawing in Opencanvas, throwing around realistic colors just to experiment with the brush options. Before I knew it, the coloring was half-done. I ended up finishing the entire piece before he'd even sent me the final version of the drawing. I've been trying to avoid too-literal copies of photos, so maybe I'll try coloring this again with the style I had in mind for it.
I hope he uploads the drawing to his gallery, because it really is beautiful.

very nice! i really can't do digital colouring, if my painting skills aren't upto that standard how the hell can i do it on the computer?!
if you colour a pencil drawing don't you loose all the beautiful details that come from the original? to me in theory it's like painting over the top, kinda painting by numbers but with more (blending) skill and room to be creative?
i've always wondered...

Interesting questions. I think it depends on what details you are looking for. If you're looking for the delicate pencil marks of a pure graphite drawing, then yes, those things are gone. We started this one for the express purpose of it being a collaboration. So I wasn't hiding or defacing an already complete piece of work, it was a process we planned and shared together. I also don't think its any more paint-by-numbers than a traditional oilpainting that starts with a pencil base. It still takes an understanding of lighting and forms.

hey, thanx for the reply i've always wondered and now i understand a little more still don't get how the computer can achieve the same beautiful brush stroke and expression a real painting can have, it always amazes me. oh and the paint-by-numbers comment i wasn't attempting to insult in anyway, it was just the only very loose description i could think of to satisfy what i wanted to say, so i hope you took no offence, i'm just quite bad at expalining myself fully.
thanx again, a great piece of work! think i'll go check the pencil version

no worries. I wasn't offended.
sergio hasn't uploaded the pencil version yet. i think he's been busy and is still tinkering with it. he's hoping to have it up within the week i think.

Good god you have your technique down. I agree with a previos poster: it could easily do without the line drawing. I guess part of that is due to the collaboration though. I would love to see the less literal interpretation of this. It could be so glammed up like crazy.

Skin tones came out really well. I love the way you did the satin sheen on that deal she's wearing.

I think the brush technique works very well here...I noticed you used line here...which I typically do not notice in your work at all...sort of outlining her body. I understand how it's used as a separator, but not sure you need it there, since the rendering is so damn good.
