Description
Okay… how can I explain that…Some time ago a friend of mine and I remembered all the TV-shows of our childhood and of course one of them was Pokemon. Since this day I had the huge urge to draw some of my favourite Pokemon. And yes, I finally got weak...
As you see it’s no “My imaginary team”-stuff. Each of them is representing one type and to make it more realistic (hehe, good joke, Pokemon and being realistic) I desided not to use any legendary Pokemon. I kind of regret that now because without Mew this drawing is just incomplete… u.u
Anyway! To the Pokemon pros who may read this: I chose most of these Pokemon for sentimental and/or visual reasons and I’m quite sure that’s not the way you choose yours. I’m also not sure if I always used the right vocabulary. I did my best but that’s really hard if you aren't THAT used to the proper english terms. I also hope that I didn't totally mess up any sizes but the references - you know they don't make any sense.
And now here we go, some explanations about which Pokemon is representing which type and why:
Zangoose (Normal)
What is this supposed to be? A ferret? A cat? A giant squirrel? Something in between? I have no idea but it looks damn cool and that’s not easy if you have to live with part pink fur.
Charizard (Fire)
The favourite type of my childhood and still an easy decision. Not for rational reasons but the fact that I chose Charmander as starter playing Red and Blue. And I also loved seeing Charizard being disobedient at the anime. And it’s a dragon. Or, at least, has finally the possibility to be one.
Riolu (Fighting)
I never liked the Fighting type because these Pokemon were all supposed to look extra tough and rough and ended up not having any charm. But this little biped canine is different, it looks quite okay. (Which cleary doesn't mean that I can find any sympathy towards Lucario in my little OP-hating heart)
Buizel (Water)
To understand my choice, you have to know that out of the “old” types Water is my least favourite. Out of the Original 151 I would have chosen Gyarados but this two-tailed orange otter or what ever it’s supposed to be looks just too awesome to ignore it just because it’s not part of the original 151. It defiantly should have been because then I would have known it way earlier.
Swellow (Flying)
Due to the fact that I part time grew up in stables I have a sentimental connection towards swallows. And now there is this tough looking Pokemon representing these memories without being too girly.
Bulbasaur (Grass)
One of the cutest Grass Pokemon there is and due to its long appearance at the anime it’s simply a part of my childhood. Ahh, nostalgia…
Seviper (Poison)
I really like snakes and I also kind of liked Arbok at the anime but I truly disliked Jessie (maybe my least favourite of all characters) and therefore Seviper is now the snake Pokemon of my choice.
Electrike (Electric)
No, I didn’t choose Pikachu. I don’t even like Pikachu at all. (Ash’s) Pikachu is a little yellow Mary Sue and therefore it may be on the “My least favourite Pokemon”-drawing if I’ll ever do that.
But now to Electrike: I know, it looks quite weird but I really do like its coloration and the fact that it looks like it would be a bad idea to annoy it.
Cubone (Ground)
It looks sweet and well-fortified at the same time, Pokemon design at its best. Although this “wears the skull of its dead mother”-stuff is truly disturbed for something made for children. A little bit. But I like such weird stories. Who cares that this particular one doesn't make any sense since breeding was introduced?
Girafarig (Psychic)
I hate and love the Psychic type at the same time and although no Pokemon will ever be a proper place holder for Mew, Girafarig is still quite interesting. I mean, its tail has got a face. That brings “butthead” to a whole new level.
Onix (Rock)
Okay… I now will confess… out of all human protagonists of the show I know (yes, that aren’t that much…) there is one no one else can mess with: Brock. I wanted one of his Pokemon to represent the Rock type and Onix is his best and will always be. (A/N: It evolved?! Guess what, I don't care^^)
Lapras (Ice)
Hey, it’s some kind of a little blue baby Nessie/dinosaur/whatever-Pokemon. If that isn’t cute, nothing is. Plus, you can ride it. But it definitely has to keep quiet because of its terribly annoying voice. Looks nice, but sounds awful… oh gosh, it may become Pokemon’s Pop Idol one day o.o
Scyther (Bug)
Do I really have to explain that? I know, there are so many Pokemon liked and disliked by so many people but I truly never ever met anyone who disliked Scyther. I mean, look at it. How could you ever dislike it? It’s so damn cool.
Dragonite (Dragon)
Dragons! Dragon type Pokemon aren't as overpowered compared to other types as they used to be but I DO remember that I hated battling them. Even more than Psychic or Ghost. Plus: In Red/Blue you have to battle that Dragon type Elite Four guy and it was HIS Dragonite which beat the hell out of my poor Charizard. Still hate you Dragonite! But with respect and a place in this list.
Haunter (Ghost)
Oh gosh, Ghost-Pokemon… How much I hated them because of this “doesn't affect them”-stuff. Anyway I really liked Haunter due to its game icon. So creepy… Long story short: Best Ghost-Pokemon ever!
Poochyena (Dark)
Storytime! I’ve stopped watching the anime and caring for Pokemon in general somewhere during the Orange Archipelago season (yes, when it aired for the FIRST time. I kind of feel old saying that…) and because of that I’m not that emotionally attached to the Pokemon introduced later. And I used to dislike most of them. However, one day a boy showed his new cards to me and one of them was a Poochyena. I liked it immediately. These crazy eyes, the scruffy fur… this Pokemon made me rethink my opinion that all non-Generation 1 Pokemon suck.
To be honest I prefere Mightyena over Poochyena but for driving the little stupid Gen1 girl out of me the base form deserves to represent my favourite type.
Excadrill (Steel)
I’m really not into Steel Pokemon. Not at all. But I do like moles and this one looks like some kind of badass mole. I really wouldn’t like to tell it it should stop digging in my garden.
Gardevoir (Fairy)
Fairy? What's happening?! I know, the Pokemon World was always an evolving thing, they also added Steel and Dark, bla bla bla - but fairies?! We will see. By the way: Marill? A fairy?! Yeah, of course, I’m a fairy too…
