Description
This is an instructional of how to use a monofin. The monofin featured in this illustration is a finis rapid monofin.I know there has been big debate lately as far as the safety of monofins and mermaid tails. With the finis rapid there are quick release straps making it extremely easy to get the monofin off as if it wasn't easy to get it off in the first place. You should know how to swim well BEFORE using a monofin. Also, no matter how great of a swimmer you are you should always have someone accompanying you into the pool or body of water for safety reasons. This person should not be wearing a monofin and they should be capable of saving you if need be. Professional free divers often use monofins but these days with mermaids becoming more popular monofins are becoming more frequently used and thus causing debate on the safety of a monofin. Many people who have no experience swimming in a monofin like to protest about how dangerous they are. Coming from someone who owns a finis rapid and is still a novice at using it, I can say that I feel that it is very safe! You can get to the surface quicker for a breath of air when using the monofin, and as I have stated you can quickly take it off even in deep water.
Anyways, I would like to recommend looking up monofin swimming videos on youtube as well because there are some good ones that will help show you the proper movement that you need. You basically want one fluid movement of your body and you are not supposed to put a lot of stress on your ankles. It is more of a core workout. A fun core workout I might add.
