Description i have been asked by many people, and here it is! this is the exact method i used for my tail.

**PLEASE READ COMMENTS BEFORE YOU ASK QUESTIONS!**
I did forget to mention the Spray Silicone in the first picture, which is $9 on Amazon.com. It is used for divers, and should be applied to the finished tail to prevent stickiness!
This tutorial was a collaboration from many of the mer community on Mer.Yuku.com
**DISCLAIMER**
Do not swim in a mermaid tail without supervision - This particular tail-tutorial makes a tail that is easily 40-50bls when finished. It will be weightless in the water, but will double in weight after being wet on land.
I suggest practice swimming with a monofin while in the process of making your tail - it will help you learn how to move with the fin and build the necessary muscles to swim with it.

oh my god its beautiful.i tried alex latex with lycra but i guess it wasnt enough latex and it broke apart. with the extra stretching of the material while in the water it just didnt hold up. i love your tutorial and am looking forward to making my first neoprene tail. also i would love to get an update on how its performing in the water. how soon did you start to see wear and tear?

Hi! I was looking at that tutorial and I don't know if its because of my ipad but steps 2,3,4,5,6, and 7 are really blurry and pixelated. Is it ok if you tell me what those steps say? Thanks!

THIS IS AMAZING!! Thank you so much I've also seen tails made out of silicone instead. Have you had any experiences with silicone tails? If so, what would you say the pros and cons of each are? Thanks again!

Oh man. Thank you so much. I am making a fabric tail this year and I was really intimidated by the idea of making a latex tail. Your tutorial makes the whole ordeal less frightening. I want to own a real latex and silicone tail in the future if the fabric one works out well for me. Again thanks for the tutorial post.

Finis is a competitive swimmer apparel company, and they made the type of monofin I bought.
Its called the Finis Wave.
Find Finis here: [link]

I can't read the writing very well (tiny phone screen, blah) but does that say you got an airbrush and a compressor from Amazon.com for $10 each? That's quite a bargain! What is the brand? I can't find anything near that price range when I search...

for the monofin did you keep the straps on it? im confused about how you would get your foot in it. Im in the process of making my own sorry for the multiple questions lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

missfit1023 In reply to The-Hunter2 [2012-12-27 17:24:43 +0000 UTC]

I kept my straps on - but I will tell you, it is a nightmare to get them on my feet sometimes.
I know a LOT of people who cut off the straps and find it easier to get on. The reason I chose not to was just because of my swimming style (kicking a LOT lol) would cause my fin to slip off of me.

With the strap though, I can choose to use it or not - if you cut off the strap, you only have one option.

I'm sorry - "to paint on the NEOPRENE first, then use alex plus" I fail at words.

missfit1023 In reply to seaspire [2012-10-09 18:00:16 +0000 UTC]

some people i know use that method, and it does preserve the paint longer - but, i personally like the look of the paint on the latex.

missfit1023 In reply to seaspire [2012-10-09 23:36:36 +0000 UTC]

it does, but i put a thin THIN thin layer of latex over the paint. it helps it last a little longer.

It works to paint on the latex first and then use alex plus, right?
