This is how "I hope you're happy" happened.

From left to right: freehand pencil sketch turned to lineart --> faces retraced for the tablet --> basic colors --> lines removed --> shading, background and text
Done on an Aiptek tablet (yay, cheap) in PhotoImpact. Photoshop or GIMP would've worked just as well.
