Description
I haven’t done a meme in a very long time, so I figured I’d try out this one. I’ve seen this meme floating around DA and I thought it looked very fun. It also seems like a good way for you guys to get to know me, my art and my personality. I also drew a little image of myself up the side just to make things more interesting. Here’s some explanations for what I chose:
Who I look like:
Kiruri Orihara (from Durarara): Simple, I have a tiny build and height, with short brunette hair. I also wear a lot of hoodies, jackets and jumpers.
Yūya Mochizuki (from Another): Once again, short brunette hair and petite build. I also (in warmer weather) have a habit of wearing button-up white shirts paired with dark pants, like a Japanese school boy uniform.
Anne (from Jojo: Stardust Crusaders): I’m likely this girls height, and once again she has short brunette hair. Its also rather messy in style, just like mine.
Renko Usami (from Touhou Project series): And one more time, she has short brunette hair. Though, I also dress like her some times too, especially when it’s warmer and I can wear a hat.
Who I act like:
Nozomu Itoshiki (from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei): I’m a very emotional kind of person, just like him. I can also be quite paranoid, pessimistic and negative, which is also similar to him. However, I’m not as overly dramatic.
Jacuzzi Splot (from Baccano): Okay, I cry a lot. Like a lot. And so does this guy. Though, my sobbing firs aren’t nearly as inspiring as his.
Panacotta Fugo (from Jojo: Golden Wind): Sometimes I have anger issues and a high emotional tipping point. It doesn’t take much to make me upset or moody. But more positively, I’m also quite the brainiac, just like him.
Shinji Ikari (from Neon Genesis Evangelion): Worrying, I know, but I do feel like I have a lot in common with this guy. We’re both awkward, emotional and stricken with anxiety and self doubt. We’re also both striving to overcome loneliness. Sometimes I wish I could be an Eva pilot just like him, though.
Who I want to be:
Josuke Higashikata (from Jojo: Diamond is Unbreakable): He has loads of friends, is kind and strong, and has a positive attitude. Sometime I wish I could be like that. He’s truly an inspiration.
Marisa Kirisame (from Touhou Project series): Always smiling, has a ‘can do’ attitude, a joyous outlook on life and is very powerful.
Fuura Kafuka (from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei): She’s positive no matter what and nothing brings her down. I wish I could think on like bright side of everything and never feel negativity.
Celty Sturluson (from Durarara): She’s bad-ass, intelligent and proves you don’t need to be that typical standard of beauty to find true love.
What my art style resembles:
Jhonen Vazquez artwork: Particularly in the way I draw eyes and smiling / gritting mouths. His art was actually my initial inspiration when first trying to find my style. Though, I added more realistic body proportions over time.
Jamie Hewlett artwork: I see this in the fashion in which I draw faces and different expressions. Also, in the angular aspects I put in are also similar, like with hair and the female anatomy.
Soul Eater art style: Particularly in the facial expressions and character design. The way I sometimes draw mouths is almost identical.
Litchi Light Club character design: Male characters, wearing gakurans and school uniforms, with dark hair, feminine features and skinny anatomy. Yep, it’s definitely similar to my artwork. Not just in character design either, but overall artistic elements (especially my original artwork).
What art style inspires me:
Koji Kumeta artwork: His artwork inspires my colouring, character design and composition. He’s also an artist I greatly look up to as a personal inspiration. I especially enjoy the simplistic, bit stylised way he draws faces.
90s/80s anime OVA art style: I’ve always enjoyed the older style of anime and manga for as long as I can remember. I adore the colouring and overall aesthetic, especially how dark it can sometimes be.
Gerald Scarfe artwork: His composition inspires me the most. I love how elaborate and horrific everything intentionally looks. He’s definitely an inspiration to my more grim art.
Traditional Japanese art: Loved this for years. Big inspiration for character design and colouring. But I mainly find inspiration from this when I draw backgrounds.
What art style I avoid:
She-ra reboot art style (aka, ‘Twitter’ art): Just plain boring, and everyone, everywhere seems to have this style now. I’m just not fond of soft, generic artwork. I’m also sick of how all the girls look like 12 year old boys.
High Guardian Spice art style (aka, ‘fake anime’): I like anime, I like anime art, but I don’t like the ‘try hard’ anime style this series goes for. Especially how it stops looking like an anime and ends up looking more like the style I featured above.
Gacha Club/ Life ‘art’: I will never, ever end up using Gacha. It’s not art, it’s boring and everything tends to look cluttered. I don’t mind when people use Gacha as a base though (like drawing on their own clothes and hair). As long as they put effort into it.
Stereotypical Tumblr art style: Ugly, ugly, ugly. It’s not ‘more realistic’ to make everyone look hideous, and that’s why I’ll never end up drawing like that.
Hope you guys enjoyed this meme!
