Description The ground shook, the sand split, it flowed like a river into the crevice. It fell and fell, no bottom to greet it, and from all around more sand gathered to fall with it. Down, down, down it fell, down and down, as the desert around grew shallower. When the hard rocky surface could taste the air, the tremor stopped, the crevice closed, and the sky lit up with a brilliant light. The dust in the air cast a sepia tone right then to everything: to the sky, the barn, the sun, all of it. After several minutes, as the dust began to settle, the colors started to peek out again. The sky was brilliant--a brighter blue than I had ever seen--and the house and barn, too, seemed to have changed. Everything was darker, but it was also brighter. I really can't explain what I saw.
