This is really good! I agree with Zouziias on the fact that it looks like he's in the Illusion Room in the Water Temple. You might not have intended it, but the white background makes his darkness jump off the screen. And the red/violet eyes are exceedingly creepy and a great addition!
I think I can see Link reflected on the sword. That's another great detail!

What're you talking about? He's OBVIOUSLY in the Water Temple room with the island. The white background is OBVIOUSLY that odd fog that's in that room. It's a very well thought through background!

hm...i can't say why you're not happy with this but for me it feels lacking
it's not bad of course(i can't match it) but the sword looks a bit flat and there's not much work to the bottom portion
