I think it's because they didn't get the Copyrights for most of the original characters

Yeah, I heard that the company or workers lost all the copyrights >.>
It's sad, in the end they only got copyright for Spike and Applejack, then having to change the characters >.>

She was my favorite G3 only because she cried. She was really the only pony to REALLY express an emotion other than "Goody gumdrops I'm so happily surprised!"
