Same here actually. The vid isnt that interesting. It's a kid who's bullied because she is blind, but she overcomes her fears and makes friends with Luna. Which... was a bit iffy. She's the only one who understands Luna? Really?
And yes, her voice did not please my tinitus.

Maybe not so typical... The animation about her is not really about "I'm blind, so feel sorry for me", but about overcoming yourself.

It kinda is though. She is blind, so she is bullied, meaning she has no friends. She is only there to be felt sorry for.

I think that her blindness just is a reason why she had to overcome herself and her low self-esteem (and also a reason of her having low self-esteem). Being a feel-sorry-for character is a side-effect of that, because such characters more than always make you sympathize to them. Also add her cute outlook to that.
But if she wasn't blind, the story would be even more typical, wouldn't it?

If she wasnt blind, sure it would be more typical. But now that it is, it doesnt make it any less typical. And the fact that she is the single pony in the world, that understands Luna. That just added a lil mary sue bonues to her.

Now let me open you a veeery little secret: nowadays ALMOST EVERYTHING is typical. Nowadays it will take a lot of effort to make something absolutely new. Let me compare to... erm, let it be laptops: they all basically do the same things, but they use different hardware, different OSs, and they even have different colors. Even though there is a large variety of them, they are all typical. So are smartphones, TVs, cars, sofas and even goddamn spoons and pens.
So the story of Snowdrop had no choice but to be typical. Why she is so popular, then? Because it's just the matter of taste. Blaming her for being typical is like blaming Chuck Norris for being one of seven billion humans rather than being a three-nosed one-legged fluffy alien from another galaxy. However, I'd agree with you that making Snowdrop one of the closest friends of Luna was too much.
