Sci-fi humanized rabbits continues with some Efrafans.
Efrafa is a series of old bunkers that were built in the early years of the invasion. They have well stockpiled supplies, heavy fortifications, and more advanced weaponry than most of the other warrens. Still real short on bullets though.
Woundwort built Efrafa as a culture of empowerment through violence and they have successfully fought some of the alien wildlife. But mostly that macho bullshit gets turned on each other and other survivors. While the officers have guns they’re just as likely to go for using bare hands just to make a point. In the same vein while they have some body armor they might just toss it for a shirtless brawl - which I suppose is how Bigwig goads Woundwort into a one on one duel at the end instead of just getting shot.
So here’s Campion and Hyzenthlay having a quiet chat after Campion makes rank. I was going for Campion, Hzyenthlay, Thethuthinnang and Blackavar having all known each other and been in the same Mark. As the military is the only way to get anywhere in Efrafa they were all hopeful candidates, but only Campion makes it. For Hyzenthlay and Thethuthinnang this leads to complete disillusionment with the system, for Blackavar it sends him into a downward spiral culminating in the escape attempt that ruins his life. Part of Campion’s arch would be about him having to reconcile with the three of them.
Still not sure if the color/shapes of the paint is going to be about showing rank or just something they do in Efrafa. I’m leaning toward it being more a personal expression thing, and it catches on with some of the non-Efrafan characters (particularly Bigwig and Hazel).
(probably just gonna call Hyzenthlay and Thethuthinnang ‘Hyze’ and ‘Thethu’ most of the time)
