Under the vast Pacific Ocean, Godzilla has been enjoying a peaceful rest. Sea life appears tiny next to the sleeping dinosaur. Even large whales are dwarfed by Godzilla. Meanwhile, hundreds of miles away, something strange is happening...

The people of Southern California are very worried. For days, dozens of tiny tremors have been shaking their homes. "Is the BIG earthquake?" they wonder. Another tremor rumbles. This one is so strong that it damages buildings and knocks down power lines.

Just outside Los Angeles, a factory shaken. Two tanks of harmful chemicals break open. Dangerous fumes billow into the air and mingle with city's smog. Suddenly, an ugly blob of a creature appears in the sky. "Look!" cries a factory worker. "It's Hedorah, the Smog Monster!" Horrified people watch as the Smog Monster circles like a vulture, then flies right to a smokestack. The creature sucks up the deadly fumes, using the smokestack like a straw!

People flee as the hideous Hedorah begins to terrorize the city. His polluted stomach belches out sickening gases over Beverly Hills shops. His toxic skin drips sizzling acid on downtown skyscrapers. His noxious breath ignites fires from the Valley to Venice Beach. Hedorah even melts the Hollywood sign! "Call out the fire department!" cries the mayor. "Alert the police! We must fight the Smog Monster!"

As if things aren't bad enough, another earthquake begins to shake the city. Roads and buildings tremble as people hold on for dear life. They gasp in fear, "Is THIS the big one?!" People point and stare as Hollywood Boulevard begins to buckle. It looks as if something is pushing its way up from beneath the ground... "It's an underground monster!" shouts a policeman. "He must have been causing the earthquakes all along!"

The mayor calls an emergency meeting. Experts from around the world join the conference by video. "The underground monster is Gigan" explains a Japanese official. "He is a super-powered cyborg, sent here by aliens to destroy the world. Many years ago, Gigan lost a battle against Godzilla and then went into hiding beneath the earth." "Clearly, he is ready for a new attack," says a Pentagon general. "But he will not destroy us," asserts the president from Washington, D.C. "Mobilize our armed forces!" "It is useless," advises the Japanese official. "Such weapons cannot stop this monster." "One of our jets fighters has spotted another monster approaching Los Angeles," announces an Air Force officer. "Another monster?" everyone cries. "Switch screen number four to remote," the mayor orders. A camera on the jet fighter's wing shows everyone what is coming. "It's Rodan!" exclaims a scientist. "The smell of Hedorah must have awakened the giant Pterodactyl. Rodan will fight the Smog Monster!" "Then you may have a chance," says the Japanese official. "Rodan has always hated Hedorah's foul stench. Wherever the filthy Smog Monster has appeared, Rodan has tried to drive him away."

Using his mighty wings and razor-sharp talons, Rodan immediately goes on the attack. At first, Hedorah flees. But as Rodan chases him over the set of a movie studio, the Smog Monster suddenly turns to fight. "Take cover!" shouts the film crew, seeing the giant creatures hovering above them,. "This is no special effect! These monsters are REAL!"

Hedorah flings his poisonous acid and toxic breath at Rodan. Rodan reels backwards, then lets out a screeching cry for help. As the Smog Monster closes in, things look bad for Rodan...

But they look even worse for Los Angeles! Gigan has climbed out of his underground tunnel and is now tearing down buildings on Hollywood Boulevard. Army attack helicopters try to fire on the monster, but the cyborg's thick hide is like steel armor. People run in terror. What force on Earth can defend them from this evil underground Monster?

Godzilla can! At Santa Monica beach, lifeguards are looking out to sea and shouting with excitement, "Godzilla is coming!" The giant dinosaur was asleep beneath the ocean when he heard Rodan's cry. Now Godzilla sounds a long, deep roar that tells Rodan that help is on the way...

The terrible Smog Monster has already cornered Rodan and is about to finish him off. Godzilla arrives just in time! Bellowing a battle cry, Godzilla blasts the Smog Monster with his fiery radioactive breath, knocking Hedorah away from Rodan. Then he targets Hedorah again, hitting him with more atomic power.

The toxic waste that makes up Hedorah's body cannot withstand Godzilla's ultimate weapon. The Smog Monster is nearly vaporized by the heat of Godzilla's radioactive flame. Fleeing for his life, Hedorah flies into the far reaches of the atmosphere. Someday the Smog Monster may return, but today he is defeated! Shaken, but still alive, Rodan survives the battle. The winged monster squawks a loud thanks as he heads for home.

But the struggle is far from over. Gigan hears Godzilla's battle cry and tramps through the streets to find him. The cyborg monster will let nothing stop him on his mission to destroy the Earth--not even Godzilla. He lets out a roar of his own and attacks!

With his deadly curved talons, Gigan swipes at Godzilla's head. Godzilla bellows in anger and grapples with the cyborg. That's when Gigan whirls his Jet Cutter chest saw. The sharp blades digs into Godzilla tough hide. Grunting in surprise, Godzilla stumble backward. Gigan enjoy the sight of his rival's fall. The cyborg flaps his terrible tri-wings and takes to the sky. Then Gigan blasts the dinosaur monster with his atomic forehead laser.

Now it's Rodan turn to help. Rodan, the fastest of all the monsters, dives down from the clouds toward Gigan. His super speed creates a sonic boom. The powerful shock waves blast Gigan backward. He tumble through the air, finally landing miles outside the city limits.

Godzilla is angry. He wants to finish this battle. He tramps out to find a stunned Gigan rising from the hot desert floor. In a rage, the two giant monsters slam into each other. The force of the impact makes the earth tremble beneath them. With a terrible rumble, the ground splits open behind Gigan. Spying the deep crack, Godzilla charges the cyborg and lifts him high overhead. Using his incredible strength, Godzilla hurls Gigan into the opening in the earth.

Gigan tries to climb out, but Godzilla hits the cyborg with his atomic breath. Instantly, Gigan plunges down into the blackness. Then another tremor rocks the desert. The quakes closes the crack, sealing Gigan deep underground.

The battle is finally over, and the people of Los Angeles wave farewell to the two monsters who saved them. Rodan flies homeward, and Godzilla heads back into the ocean, disappearing beneath the waves.

Now the hard work of repairing the ravaged city begins, but as least the danger has passed. And one other thing is certain--Godzilla, King of the Monsters, has definitely left an impression on Hollywood!
