Maya would not consent to anything that took her away from the ground. Call it a quirk, or a handicap, but there was nothing Mr. Lott could do to get her in a saddle. The furthest she would go would be to the seat of a sulty, but that only once, to show Bo how to work the reins. Unfortunately, this meant that the Beaurevers were somewhat more behind in their training compared to the fawnlings, who were too small to ride. They had all the same training as the fawns - the same easy response to a lead, the same tameness to a touch. But Maya had gone as far as she would go with them, and though Mr. Lott could ride, he was no trainer, and at least he knew that.

So until someone else could be thrust into the saddle, the Beaurevers enjoyed much the same work as the fawnlings. In Nice's case, she particularly enjoyed it, eagerly following Maya's lead through the pastel spring-themed obstacle course. None of the obstacles in the little game gave her any trouble - unless there was a particularly tasty-looking snack potted next to it...
