Description
Was out for a ride on the motorbike last Saturday Evening and saw this field and just thought wow. So went back with the camera gear on the next suitable evening.Location: Creaton, Northamptonshire.

I did some shots down to 17mm but the poppies looked lost, this was the best compromise.

Oh, wow! I simply love poppies! I'm more fond of the small poppies (I have a certain emotional attachment to them as we had a garden with many of them at our house when I was a little kid), though we had a few large ones like these in the back yard when we first got our current house, and they were pretty nice.

Anyway, I like how it came out. The poppies are quite pretty and vibrant (and not too glaring, either). I must say the sky is almost... lacking... in comparison (it seems a cross between an attempt at bright blue and dark thundery goodness), but in a sense that makes it better because it makes the pretty flowers shine all the brighter.

I agree that it looks better without the stereotypical blue sky - I don't really like such pics because they only enforce our belief that flowers are simply here for human enjoyment and do not simply exist for the purpose of their own lives. This way it seems more private - as if you are looking into their world in secret. Sorry for the rambling btw!
