Description - King Sombra.  My choice for number one on this list may seem controversial to some because this characters gets complained about a LOT,   most of the complaints are that his design looks unoriginal or that he wasn't much of a villain because of a lack of screentime as opposed to the others,  but I disagree...he was just AWESOME.   I know that every brony out there pretty much loathes Sombra for reasons such as that he didn't have much of a personality or that he looked too much like an OC,   but he doesn't need to have such things as a personality to define who he is because he is possibly the most badass villain in MLP history next to Chrysalis and Tirek.  I love the whole dark-lord vibe and the whole shadow aspect,  it makes him that much scarier.   One could say he's the MLP version of the Boogieman or the legendary Mexican monster known as El Coco or El Cucuy as he's sometimes called.  In fact he has the most ominous build-up of all,  we don't even see him fully -  we see him as a shadow,  and it is said that the unseen is sometimes actually scarier than what we do see...director John Landis even states this.  He also uses everypony's fears to his advantage like Freddy Krueger.   If you've ever been to Universal Studios Hollywood there is no doubt you've seen the 2013 El Cucuy maze narrated by Danny Trejo,  Trejo says that Cucuy can sometimes appear as 'a shadow,  a ghost,  an evil spirit -  who can become whatever you fear the most'.   In a way that is also very fitting of King Sombra.  And yes - he does remind me a lot of Walken's Hessian from Sleepy Hollow.  Granted we don't get to see much of him at first except for in shadow form at the start,  but like I said...sometimes what you can't see is more frightening than what you can see.   In a way similar to the Nemesis creature that the ride at Alton Towers is supposedly based on,  we don't know what the Nemesis is but we know from the description that it is a powerful alien being from another world that was captured and enslaved by humans.  Same with Randall Flagg of Stephen King lore,  we might never know what he actually is but we know he is a demonic shapeshifter who can travel through different dimensions and that he has many aliases that he uses.   The same could be applied to Sombra as well  - we don't know that much about him but what he do about him is that he is basically the Boogieman of Equestria.
- Tirek. Sombra isn't the only bad-ass MLP villain,   Tirek here was pretty damn badass as well.  He was not only threatening but amusing as well,  not to mention the DBZ inspired fight-scene in the episode Twilight's Kingdom was epic.
-  Gilda.  I couldn't do this list without Gilda,  because there's simply no one like her.
-  Queen Chrysalis.  Amazing,  beautiful,  seductive and powerful -  I LIKE that in a villainess.  Chrysalis is an amazing villainess and one of my personal favorites to boot.
- Discord.  He's Discord..nuff said.
-  Spike.  Believe it or not, Spike was one of the first MLP characters I RPed as with my dear friend ,  and in a way he's one of my favorites because there are lot of times in which I could relate to him.
- Zecora.  Remember what I just said earlier about that unoriginal character Queen Mousette in Blues Brothers 2000?  Well this is her done right.  This is Zecora and she is simply fantastic.  I love that she's a witch-doctor/medicine woman type who uses magical ingredients and that she talks in rhyme.  Also she reminds me a lot of Grace Jones,  actually Grace Jones as the vampiress in Vamp reminds me a lot of her mainly because of the bodypaint that makes it look like she has stripes.  What I love the most about Zecora though is that she knows exactly what ingredients to use if she's working on a way to cure ponies of their ailments.
-  Cheese Sandwich.  I'm sure will agree that this pony rules...for a good reason,  he's voiced by the king of parodies himself Weird Al Yankovic.
- Princess Luna.  Like with my statement on Spike,  I can relate to Luna because I know what it feels like to be different.
-  Big Macintosh.  I didn't start off as a brony right away,  in fact I used to hate MLP before I knew that this version of the show was different than the others,  luckily my friend got me to turn over a new leaf by introducing me to FIM.  The first pony I got introduced to?  Big Macintosh.  He was also the first MLP character I ever RPed as and he was the first MLP character I did an MLP Vs MK moveset for.   He doesn't talk much but we wouldn't have him any other way.
- Braeburn.  If I could i'd put up a separate list just for the entire Apple family because they're my favorite of all the families in Equestria but for now..Braeburn has a welcome spot on this here list.
-  Princess Cadance.
-  Maud Pie.
-  Rarity.
-  Pinkie Pie.
-  Shining Armor.
-  Babs Seed.
- Princess Celestia.
- Ahuizotl
-  The Diamond Dogs.
-  Mane-iac.
-  Doctor Whooves.
-  The Big Lebowski Ponies (not pictured).
-  Flim and Flam.
-  Daring Do.
- Philomena.
- Fluttershy.  I can't say no to her,  she's just so precious.  Of course my favorite alternate forms of hers are Flutterbat and her Hulked-Out form in Power Ponies.
- Iron Will.
-  Rainbow Dash.
-  Derpy Hooves.
-  The Cutie Mark Crusaders.
