Description
Monthly prompt to honor your mother, or a memory of a parent. While his mate was not his parent, she was the parent to his child and the love of his life.___________________________________________________________________
The hustle and bustle of the hideout was a bit too much for Valentine, and as much as he would have loved to stay within the underground structure, he found some fresh air outside would probably do him some good. His paws softly clicked on the tiled flooring, his full ear was tilted back, and his tail hung low. Looking at him, one would probably think that he had been beaten, but that was far from the truth. He was just feeling out of place, he felt alone to a degree, mostly because of what the day was meant to represent. His heart hurt, and it always did every year that the day came around. The day his mate became a mother, the day their family had become whole.
Once he crawled out of the underground passageway, he was finally up on the surface, enjoying the fresh air that brushed against his fur and feelers, causing them to shift in the wind. He slowly raised his head to look up at the stars, and he was reminded once more of the things he and his mate used to do together. There was a lot that came to his mind, helping with her duties when he could, snuggling up with her at night time when it got a little chilly for the two of them. Worrying about her everyday whenever she would go and do their duties.
The sadness that welled in his heart grew the more he sat outside and stared at the twinkling stars and shimmering moon. There were plenty of nights the two stayed up late and talked about their lives, about their future plans, they wanted so much for themselves, and when Darlnee was born, for her. Valentine wanted her to have the perfect life with both of them.
His tail brushed some of the grass behind him, and a tear slipped from his bright blue eyes, not all of those wishes had come true, they weren’t together anymore, there was many years he had been separated from her. The plans they told to one another, the promises the two of them made, just how many of them were broken? Their desires are lost to the wind, and their love… well that was lost to time.
He sighed, and lowered his head, his lower lip quivered, and there was a force around his heart that squeezed each time he thought about it. He still hadn’t forgotten her, and he probably never would. But Valentine huffed more to himself, as he was the only one out there. He needed to move on from her, but that wasn’t such an easy task however. She was his moonlight, his rock, she was his everything.
The shifting of grass behind him caused Valentine’s head to turn a little, he wasn’t on the offense, whatever tried to sneak up on him either wasn’t trying to, or wasn’t good at it. Though his ear flicked upwards when the creamy and red coat of his daughter made an appearance from the nearby bushes. Valentine offered her a sad smile, a few more tears falling down his furry cheeks and soaking into it, he turned his gaze back to the moonlight.
There didn’t need to be any words spoken between the two of them, the only thing Valentine muttered to the sky was “Happy mother’s day, my dear.”
