Description My newest breed for HARPG

FloraEquus: Plant Horse

Landscape your horse!
Clip, grass to any ‘clip’ style found in the horsing world and more!

Body is: Soft damp earth
Hooves and eyes are: Any wood, crystal, metal, stone or gemstone (research)
eg; gold silver, bronze copper, marble, amethyst, sapphire, jade, etc.
Colours: Any colour you find in nature in plants
Body: Clay, dirt, mud, grass, trees, bushes, foliage
Mane and tail: Flowers, berries, fruit, grasses

Can have all sorts of co-habiting plants growing on it (research your plants)
Born brown and earthy, grass tussocks grow in patches then allover then flowers appear.
You can cultivate what plants/how it looks at birth by planting seeds of plants you desire in areas you desire.

You can ‘weed’ your horses and cultivate thier look, via introducing seeds at any stage of life
or co-binding (what people do to start seedless grapes for example).
Males and females have appearence of bio horses, but thier gender is based on the plants it holds.
So breeding is more pollination by sharing a paddock in spring during windy weather or amongst bees.
(for those with a bee phobia you don’t nessisarily need bees to breed your FloraEquus)
These horses have no voiceboxes and don’t vocalize.

Please note:
You can not implant:
stone
wood
Gemstones
Crystals
Metals

These are natural to each horse
and needs to be bred for!

I will be making adopts of these at some point.
The three horses used as examples are my own, and will be uploaded seperately with desc/stats to my harpg stable account

Note can be bred to Moss ponies [link] and swamp ponies, seaweed/aquatic based plants accepted as well!

Caring for your FloraEquus

They are sentiant so 'watering' them is just giving access to a tub of water, they can drink.
Depending on the type of plants you cultivate, is how much sun etc your FloraEquus needs. Research your plants!

You can buy various fertilizing and growth help products at loccal plant stores. Though be warned if using fertilizers, your FloraEquus will smell bad for a bit untill it settles (as some fertilizers are made out of animal muck etc).

Worms are good, in moderation.
Bug problems like afids on roses and cabbage moths can be solved with a net blanket and a medium powered air sprayer. Do not use pesticides on your FloraEquus it will kill them as it releases dangerous toxins into it's soil.

They enjoy music, touch and being talked to.
Not good for those with hayfever.

Berry based ponies are great for kids!
Yes you ca eat the fruit and berries your FloraEquus produces. You must only pick when ripe or else it causes it pain. If you do not pick the fruit/berries it will rot and cause infection. If infection occurs you must operate.

If operation is needed, put asprin in the FloraEquus' water and let it take a long drink, wait half an hour or less then you can remove the infected plant base.

Pregnancy /foaling /and your new foal
So where do babies come from? (Good question reader!)

Q: If I plant a plant taken from a floraequus, does it grow into a baby?

A: No. It would just turn into a plant.

A floraEquus is an earth-based sentient entity. Meaning it may grow foliage, but it's essense is in the soil. Think of it like a robot...it has a form a shell, but sentiance come from within, a spark..a ghost in the shell.
Or like a fairy-creature/spirit of the earth.

FloraEquus birth is slightly different to bio equine birth.

The type of flowering plant for the Floraequus can be chosen by selecting a male of the plant species you wish to cultivate on your foal.

A floraequus can foal without any pollen given by a male.
This is done by a seperation of earth.

The 'Mare' starts to gain extra 'earth-weight' around her belly, begining to have the appearence of pregnancy.
At a certain point she will look very heavy in the belly.
Then that extra belly portion will break away as a foal steps down from her, fully formed. Then she will have lost that extra 'dirt weight' as that was the baby.

As the baby is dirt, flowers/plants can be introduced for cultivation, usualy before pregnancy by adding a 'Stallion' to give pollen/seeds. This must be done before she gets the 'earth-weight' growing.
Tell-tale signs are standing very still, watching, sniffing the air, circling area with lots of water (nourishment) or lots of foliage (pollen influence).

'Mare's come in to season as often as Biomares and WILL foal with or without a stallion.
Sometimes they can do it in secret (hiding or running away) so you might not always get the chance to keep the foal if un-pollinated, as it can run off and become wild.
Though the wild ones are highly sought after as they turn up with very exotic plants on them from travelling.

If you pre-pollenate with a stallion to your tamed Floraequus, you are then able to keep an eye out and be present at the birth. It will not run off, as you'll be there to imprint on it as you've been there through the whole process.

If no pollen or seeds are introduced, it remains the same as the mother or picks up stray seeds in the field it was born in or if the wind is carrying any seeds or pollen. Wayward bees can accidently introduce foriegn foliage/plants.

To sum up.

Your Mare WILL produce offspring without a male, as it is just her dirt.
A floraequus mare, goes into 'dirt heat' in the same cycle as a bio mare.
The male is used for pollination/introduction of other plant species, usually before the mare starts getting her 'dirt weight'. So introduce stallion during her 'Dirt heat'
If no stallion is introduced, the foal will have the same plants as the mare, or from the field it is born in, or from wayward bees during the mare's 'dirt weight' time.
Symptoms for 'dirt heat' are: standing very still, watching, sniffing the air, circling area with lots of water (nourishment) or lots of foliage (pollen influence).

I will be drawing this to help better explain

Feel free to ask any questions!, as I answer them, I will add them here. If interest is enough, I MAY create a group for them

Im interested still in your cyberequines and carousellos

Oh btw do you still have your spectral corgis? Im going to set up a canineart rpg that can run alongside harpg if players with..that alow fantasy colours..as dogart rpg only allows realistics and its too restrictive on my imagination. I have a sister kennel being set up with a friend who drags doggies...and I thought of your corgis..and australian blues...unless I remembered them wrong XD
But yes..um hi?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ghost-eye In reply to moonfeather [2010-12-19 12:24:16 +0000 UTC]

If you set up a fantasy-friendly dog rpg, I'd definitely be interested in that

(btw, the spectral dogs in the IHS turkey dash pic are collie types though the long grass would've make their legs look a bit stubby & corgi-ish. Spectral corgis would still be possible though, because I'm planning to ref it as a colour gene that can show up in certain breeds & mixes rather than a breed in itself - similar the Harlequine horse gene though with different passability rules & side-effects)

moonfeather In reply to ghost-eye [2010-12-20 01:50:11 +0000 UTC]

Wicked! Im so glad you are interested, it wouldn't be a fantasy-dog rpg without you Im excited to hear you are extendng the colour gene, sounds interesting.

Ahh yes collie, I see now, sorry about that XD

I'll set it up in the next few weeks.
Question; Do you think linearts should be allowed? Im thinking for refs only..

Also Im concidering Dog shows too, like the horse shows around. Agility, retrieval(sp?), in hand etc (i'll research though as I can't remember the termology lol).

I've checked out your group - looks fine! I'm happy with the rules as they are, and join my stable to it next time I login to it.

Dog shows would be great - I can see some of the IHS collies being experienced enough for sheepdog trials.

I also think doing a guardian angels-type project like Kalmakoira's & Bovidaeloony's horse character rescue, where players can adopt an abused dog character into the game (the creator comes up with the dog's history and has the option of doing a short series of rehab pics before making him/her available for adoption - & crediting kalmakoira with the original idea). If that happens and I became involved in it, there will be a caveat - all my dog's stories will be based on actual events (many of which will have to be toned down a lot) that happened when I was a lot younger and/or heard about second-hand from reliable witnesses. I haven't had a lot of direct real-life personal experience with horses (a few kiddy rides when I was young, helped looked after some family friend's horses on a property when I was a teen), but dogs are definitely another matter - I & my family have rehabilitated dogs that have been dumped and/or spoilt and/or abused and/or involved in family breakups etc so I know of some of the issues they can get.

*nodds* See I understand that some people are closer to certain animals, and not everyone loves ponies. I have alot of people I watch that draw doggies and kitties, so it made sense to set up those.

I certainly encourage an adoption/guardian agels project, and would love for you to hold them. You sound very experienced in it.
I don't know too much about doggies myself, ^.^;

The rules are all set out by the founder of that group. I just edited spelling so it's really created by them, im just helping out as there is no need to create a new one.
