Description There was a little child shining and bright
the very essence of joy and light
In the darkness she did dwell,
a lonely little angel at the gates of hell

Her father a figment of her wild imagination
in her mind a king or man of high station

Her mother so beautiful and still so young,
soon tired of playing mommy and wanted to have fun.

and so our angel was left to roam
in and out of stranger's homes
never knowing day by day
what this world would throw her way

Bruised and broken by her plight
nothing left of joy and light

To a family at last she was sent
to learn of security and what love meant
The next day a trip into town
into a school that was a bit run down.

Down the hallway with its checkerboard floor
off to the left and in front of the door
stood a teacher with room..for just one more.

Day after day watching the floor
our angel traveled to that door
never gazing up, always staring down.
To be met by the teacher, who would not frown

Still unsure and miscontent
testing and trying the teachers temperment.
Into the room she would go
to the very last seat on the very last row.

Everyday with a smile and a hug
"how are you?" the teacher would say
but the answer would never come her way

Then one day to her surprise
"who cares" she heard on a tiny sigh.
"I DO" the teacher quickly replied
as she grasped tight to a faint glimmer of the light.

Day and night trust was built and wrongs turned right
As Angel's adoption was sealed,forever..tight.

Week after week and year after year
light and joy again replaced darkness and fear.

Many times when Angel felt down
she would go back to the door of the teacher who would not frown.

Then off to college our Angel was sent.
To learn to teach and be self reliant.
but never too far away the phone would ring and the teachers voice would say
"how are you today?"

Then once more back into town
to the school that was a bit more run down.
Down the hallway with its checkerboard floor
off to the left and if front of the door,
stood a young lady with a smile so bright,
to visit the one who's sheltered and guarded the light.

And there once more standing so peacefully in front of her door
was the teacher who'd refused to frown
and with a smile and a hug
had helped turn a precious life around
