On a less emotional note: despite their appearance, therdaqs are not conventional dragons, they are trans-dimensional beings with a highly unstable physical structure. They are shapeshifters that are capable of permanently changing their form over long periods of time, but can radically alter their form temporarily and in a shorter amount of time with enough skill and concentration. A therdaq's shapeshifting abilities are present at birth, but it has limitations: it takes literally millennia of training and practice for them to master the skill; the female in the pic has probably been practicing that trick for a while ;D
