Siobhan and Goose Feathers Liberty Display 9 am - 12 pm Arena 1 - pedestal pose (competitive)
Siobhan paced a small circle inside the arena with a very nervous horse thudding her hooves around her. As she attempted to draw closer, the mare would spin around to face her, throwing great clouds of dust in the air. Her agility was something to behold, but Siobhan was doing everything she could to remain calm and patient.
*tsk* Siobhan clucked softly to Goose Feathers as she gently waved the looped line draped in her hand encouraging the horse out further from her again. The mare's hindquarters engaged, and she pushed off happy to gain some distance, but kept her inside ear trained hard on Siobhan.
Slowly she saw signs of acceptance, the head lowered, and she began licking her lips tired of trotting in endless circles.
Weeks of trying to get close in the round pen were finally showing their efforts were not in vain, but Siobhan did not want to push her luck, so she just kept calm and kept pushing her out in the circle. Suddenly it was apparent the time had come. Goose Feathers turned her head and looked at her with her ears pricked forward. Siobhan immediately turned away and stood still in the middle of the ring. The hoofbeats slowed a little, progressively getting even slower until they were a walk. Siobhan took a few steps away and looked back slightly to catch a glimpse of the horse very warily taking a few steps forward toward her.

Several weeks after that first moment of acceptance, Siobhan had taught Goose Feathers that not only herself, but tack was not as scary as she thought it was. She was wearing a surcingle and following on leads properly. Now the issue was to teach her to go ahead and move out away from Siobhan again, back to that circle she had been forced to run on so many times, but without a rail keeping her in. The arena was much bigger, and she had more freedom, but she wasn't quite sure what to do with it.
