Some of you have been asking to see how I go about making my pic, so here is a small sample of how I came up with my recent Lugia pic. In step 1 I start off by drawing the subject from memory to get a feel for the flow of the character before I focus on the details. As you can see I originally started with flying poses.

Step 2 is after I looked at the character for reference, getting the details. Again more flying poses, it was at this point I decided to not go with a flying pose because there were already so many and I wanted to do something different.

Step 3 is a more refined pose, on the left is my first attempt. I liked the S curve but with the legs it still made it look like a flying pose. On the right is another attempt where I made some changes to the legs and also added details. From here I went into final lines and the pic was finished.

This is the process I usually take when drawing. I always start with a series of quick sketches and almost never settle with my first pass. Enjoy!
