Looks like a big hand grabbing a handful of dirt. When I first looked at it, it looked a little creepy to me. Good visual texture find. Either way you look at it, it looks alive in the animal sense rather than the plant sense. Maybe its just my imagination . . .

Wow, that's amazing! I couldn't tell whether this was a photograph or a painting!
The color saturation is great. It really gives some definition to the moss on the tree trunk. The roots look amazingly soft in that light. The shadows are awesome -- that goes without saying.
Wonderfully done. I found this piece through =rad-ix -- they had it featured on their profile page.
