Where: Zoo Veldhoven, The Netherlands

We haven't been able to access the second floor of the tropical aviary the past two visits, but even just standing on the first floor we are able to spot some of the free living exotic Birds.

Like this screaming Crested Myna, who was a big hit the first time we photographed him

Species: Crested Myna (Kuifmaina)

Latin name: Acridotheres Cristatellus

Originates from southeastern China and Indochina.

Current status: Least Concern

Did you know:

…A species of Starling, they are of average size, mainly black with a black crest on their heads. Part of their outer wing feathers are white, which is best seen in flight. The tips of their tails are also white.

…The Crested Myna was introduced in the Vancouver region of British Colombia in 1890; though initially successful, by the mid-twentiest century numbers began to decline and the bird is now extirpated in North America. Populations only persist with repeated introduction and escape from captivity.
