Description
When: October 21, 2021
Where: Dierenpark Zie-ZOO Volkel, The Netherlands
Not all Birds do well in the rain, but somehow, this beauty made it work. I think the droplets look really nice on his plumage
Species: Turkey Vulture (Kalkoengier of roodkopgier)
Latin name: Cathartes Aura
Originates from the Americas.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…In North America, it is also known as the Turkey Buzzard or simply Buzzard, while in the Caribbean it is also called John Crow or Carrion Crow.
…The Turkey Vulture is the most widespread of the New World Vultures.
…They do not have a syrinx, the vocal organ in Birds, so it vocalizes with grunts and low hisses.
…The droppings produced by the Turkey Vulture – and other Vultures – can harm or kill trees and other vegetation.
