When Meerkat have babies, of course you want to see them. But they have a dreadful enclosure; you can see the glass bit behind which is their indoors enclosure where they spend a lot of time. Babies, of course, always go back inside as soon as they see or hear someone, meaning we hardly saw them. Also, because you have to look over wooden fencing that's quite high, taking photos of small, ground-dwelling animals is pretty tricky.

So this is basically the only photo we have of one the Meerkat pups at the zoo, but it's a quite one with the playful, "helping" baby together with one of the alert, annoyed adults

Species: Meerkat (Stokstaart)

Latin name: Suricata Suricatta

Originates from Southern Africa.

Current status: Least Concern.
