"I'll just wait here," Angela sighed, resigning herself to her fishy fate. She rolled herself over to get a better view of the stairs. She watched and watched, occasionally playing with the blonde curls that kept winding into view. She lazily slapped her tail on the cool floor, never taking her gaze from the unreachable exit. She tapped her fingers, and the sudden jingling of gold bracelets almost broke her concentration. She shifted uncomfortably for a moment as her tail and her stomach seemed to drag themselves off the floor in different directions. She was growing! But this was not a cause for alarm; it merely cemented her decision to calmly wait it out.

I can't climb a flight of stairs, not with this, she thought, looking back at her long, golden tail.

Or these, she thought, looking down and blushing.

"It's not so bad," she sighed again. "I mean, what young girl hasn't dreamed of being a mermaid princess? A handsome prince is bound to take me to the sea any moment now."

She fluttered her eyelashes at the closed door of the archives, just for practice.
