We came across a clearing in the wood, and there before our eyes was an eerie sight. Had somebody carved a statue of one of the aliens out of a stump? No, on closer inspection one of the creatures had somehow started turning into wood and rooting itself into the ground. The lower half of its left arm was missing, and I decided to cut off a sample to return to the lab.
