Description "To the south of the shimmering sands of Illustria lies a dense jungle in which lies the empty shell of the Yuan-Ti city of Chicomecōātl. The story goes that the city's high priest discovered an egg while on a pilgrimage. From this egg he heard a serpentine voice demanding to be fed. The priest, believing this to be a sign from the Yuan-Ti's serpent gods, took the egg back to Chicomecōātl to raise whatever was inside. After a number of sacrifices the egg hatched, and out slithered the Devourer of Fate, a creature that would bring ruin to not only Chicomecōātl, but to many would-be heroes and nearly the entire continent of Illustria."

"This was Calypso, a lamia with soon-to-be great psychic power, and born with the psychic gifts to absorb the thoughts, memories, consciousness, and eventually even fates of those around her. The Yuan-Ti, seeing a serpentine creature with seemingly miraculous power, believed her to be an avatar of one of their gods, Dendar the Night Serpent, and as such she was worshiped as such, being given sacrifices and almost all she desired. As she and her power grew, however, so did a desire for more."

"What drove Calypso to become the monster she is today is unknown. Some say she fell in love with one of her would-be sacrifices, who despite her best efforts, eventually met his fate, driving her mad with grief (this is theorized to the origin for her peculiar ability to "devour" fate, as well as her tattoos, which grant her more control of her power). Others say she was simply born with a heart as black as the one belonging to the god she was thought to be. Whatever the reason, whether it lost love, a blackened heart, or simply a lust for more power, Calypso would soon use her position and psychic gifts to convince the entire city of Chicomecōātl that once her powers reached their apex, she would shed her skin to become Dendar herself, free to devour the material plane. This sparked a series of raids by the Yuan-Ti in an effort to gain enough sacrifices, with entire tribes and towns of people disappearing overnight in an effort to feed their false god. Eventually though, Chicomecōātl reached an impasse, and could not acquire any more sacrifices. However, Calypso claimed that they were so close to their goal, and that she estimated she only needed a single small city's worth of sacrifices to awaken her full power. In desperation, the entire city of Chicomecōātl would also disappear overnight, all it ever was and would've been fed to a false god of their own making."

"The story of Calypso is mainly used as a campfire or children's tale, with the moral or even events of the story being chosen or altered by whoever is telling it, and to the people of the main kingdom of Illustria, it is just that, a story. Most don't even believe that there ever was a city by the name Chicomecōātl. However, there are whispers of adventurers or rulers who were ripe with the potential to write history encountering a slithering oracle or advisor whose words and visions would guide them all down a darker, and often much shorter path, causing them to fade into infamy, or more horrifically, complete and utter obscurity. As if they too had been nearly erased from history..."

Sorry for the odd lighting and one of the color choices. I wanted a more burgundy color for the loincloth (Would lamias even need those?) and the under-bits of the left hand gauntlet. Other than those I think this turned out pretty good. Also yes, that is indeed a 40k inspired power claw that she is wearing.

I drew this to Shara Ishvalda's theme from Monster Hunter World (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux-2Ge… ) and Fire Viper's theme from Skylanders Swap Force (www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTaDXH… ).
