Description

Looking south at Portugal from across the mouth of the Minho Estuary.
We had walked south along the coastal camino route; "Senda Litoral da Guarda" after parking the car further north near the water treatment plant.

We had left Caminha, and then Portugal, by driving east along the south of the Minho Estuary and then north across the Ponte da Amizade. We then had to drive back west toward the coast along the northern Spanish side of the River Minho.
We eventually crossed the Ponte da Amizade after driving around the roundabout and ending up in a petrol garage ... instead of Spain!
Eventually we cross the bridge and enter a wooded landscape beside the Rover Minho that is similar to landscapes in France or elsewhere in northern Europe. Eventually we enter A Guarda, and then grind our way through traffic and shopping streets uphill onto the Estrada de Circunvalación. This leads us south from A Guarda, and runs alongside the "Senda Litoral da Guarda" which is below and beside the sea.

We drive down a hairpin bend to park the car on the "Senda Litoral da Guarda" and walk south. A wild rough Atlantic harasses a rocky and pebble strewn wave cut platform to our west. On the other side of the pathway is a weather beaten landscape of bracken, heather, and bramble. A few garden small holdings attempt modest agriculture behind weather beaten stone walls, but many more are abandoned:

To the south we can see the Portuguese Forte da Ínsua, built to guard Portuguese coastal maritime interests, and now slightly occluded by a maritime haze provoked by a powerful Atlantic Ocean colliding with the Iberian Peninsula.
A mild breezy sunny day, with a heavy sea swell and a hazy sea mist along the coast. Time logged is BST/Portuguese Local Time.
