Description
Personal notes on Page 2: For what little screen time the backing crowd had, I tried to make them look like they had their own stories to tell. That's meant to be a younger, if not slightly more built Alan Grant standing behind the Mum in the 7th panel.
Copy & Paste disclaimer: this was drawn for fun, on A5 size with Biros and Dry wipe markers. A fair few professional taboos there, especially the bit about having fun. In hindsight though, the textured paper in question while okay for pencils and paints was insufficient for clean inks.
I started this comic way back in 2010, achieved about 65% completion before shelving it. 12 years on when I heard of writer legend Alan Grant's passing, I dusted this out the cupboard and finished it with fine liners, brush pens and some digital cleaning in Clip Studio. The remaining 35% may have influenced the final produce but otherwise I kept it close to the original 2010 presentation for example sake. I’m happy to see this finished.
Those who’ve submitted to 2000ad will be familiar with the “Rogue A.I. Toilet” Dredd Prog from the Website sample. You pick up on how the script leaves margin for error and interpretation to see how you solve problems. I rolled with the flairs driving me at the time with my own liberties taken where applicable. In particular, I chose this script as I assumed Alan Grant wrote it. I could be wrong though.
There’s more I think that can be done but I’d rather except its limits and leave it to whichever critical wolf who demands a nibble. This comic headlines the new and final sections of Archived University Art. Besides some personal pieces, in the 2010 era I dealt with quite a few clients who didn’t pay me money and insincere “friends” who brown-nosed their way for free commissions. Hey, we were all young and naïve once, and we come along. At least on the merit of the showcased art itself, it shows how driven I’ve been over the years, and that alone gives me peace and confidence. On a much merrier note also included is the showcased work I did for Murky Depths magazine and Parasol Media which I’ll talk with Joy about later.
Judge Dredd and 2000ad by Fleetway Rebellion, John Wagner, Carlos Ezquerra et al. Art by me in all aforementioned mediums.
