Description
I feel I should put a quick DISCLAIMER-- I do not study historical fashion nor do I study art history. I am by no means an expert. Trust me, I checked. This is a series done solely for "fun-sies". I have no problems with the original Disney designs. I'm not trying to "fix" them. I do however, think it's fun to visualize how these fictional characters may have possibly looked.I should note that I don't have any problems with how the characters were designed. I know when animating, simplicity is better for the films the characters are in. For the series, I've attempted to look at the characters' specific era, social class, culture, and country when finding a design for them, while still attempting to retain a character's overall recognizably.

SUPER QUICK FASHION SUMMARY
Esmeralda was a "gypsy", or Romani woman with both the novel and Disney film of The Hunchback of Notre Dame taking place in Paris, France, 1482. The 15th century was actually around the time some branches of the Romani people were first documented to have arrived to Western Europe.
In 1427, they were described by an observer near Paris as, "most or nearly all had both ears pierced, and in each ear a silver ring, or two in each....as only dress an old blanket, very coarse and fastened on the shoulder by a band of cloth or cord, and underneath a poor shift for all covering." For a woman of childbearing age, the blanket would make a handy sling to carry an infant. Now, I've depicting the blanket tied across the trunk and not tied over the shoulder to more resemble the Disney character. A loose dress was worn under the draped blanket. The wear of a turban, along with the draped blanket were mandatory in order to differentiate the Romani from the general populous.
Esmeralda wouldn't have worn her vibrant purple skirt as the color was exclusively for royalty. A more dull, subdued blue-grey would have been more realistic. Earrings were seem as abhorrent to the Church. As previously noted, she wouldn't haven been able to have gold jewelry, so I've made them more copper in tone to reflect that.
