Description Name: Alexis Montrose
Codename: Shift
Age: 19
Eyes: Green (Glow bright blue while she’s using her powers)
Hair: Brown (Long enough for her to sit on)
Height: 5'9"
Body type: Very Athletic build

Powers: Alexis has the power to increase the speed at which her molecules move to the point where she is moving so fast it is as if everything else is not moving at all. In this state (dubbed hypertime) Alexis’ bodily functions work much faster as well. Her hair and nails grow faster, her food digests faster etc. It has even happened that she has grown several inches after prolonged periods in hypertime. Once, Alexis stayed in hypertime so long, that she actually aged into an old woman. Though all effects her powers have had on her usually wear off within a period of thirty minutes to an hour. After training with Professor Xavier, Alexis has discovered that she can bring other people/objects into hypertime with her. She has also learned that she has the ability to send an object/person into hypertime without going into hypertime herself. To do this, she must first make physical contact with the person/object. It is worthwhile to note that the degenerative effects of hypertime affect other people much faster than they do Alexis, the effects also take more than twice as long to wear off (though they do not wear off at all on inanimate objects, or if the person were to die). If Alexis were to touch a person while immersed in hypertime, they would feel it the moment she shifts back into normal time. By touching an object while in hypertime, or by sending it into hypertime on it’s own, she can cause its molecules to move so fast that the object decomposes almost instantly. Alexis can also vary the speeds at which she moves, for instance, she could increase her speed to run as fast as Quicksilver without slipping into hypertime.

Special Skills: Alexis is fluent in French, Chinese and Italian. She also plays several instruments (Classical Piano, Violin, Cello, Flute and the Guitar). She is an excellent gymnast, and practices Yoga to stay flexible. Alexis has been trained in various forms of Martial Arts, and subsequently, the use of various weaponry. She was trained by the best to be both thief and assassin, and as such is well versed in the use and assembly of Hi-Tech guns and artillery. She is also a better than average hacker, operating under the handle Flashchick2K.

History: Alexis’ mother died giving birth to her, leaving behind only her and her father. They lived in New York’s Bronx area until Alexis was about five years old. Unbeknownst to her, her father had secretly begun working as a small-time drug-trafficker for the various gangs in the area. She was adopted by the Chinese Triads in New York after they killed her father right in front of her, after he had apparently delivered faulty cocaine. She was raised primarily by the Chinese though she spent substantial amounts of time in the care of the Italian Mafia and various other Crime Families and/or Organizations. Shortly after they adopted her, Alexis met another young girl whose family they killed named Kelly Roberts. In later years, Kelly would come to be known as Flashback. Alexis spent six months of each year in Hong Kong, while spending the rest of her time either in Italy (Palermo/Venice), France (Paris) or the USA (New York).

After her powers manifested at age twelve, she was pushed to become a thief and/or assassin for the people who raised her. She managed to cull an excellent reputation for herself in the underworld, before her eyes went open to the kinds of people she was working for, when she was ordered to kill a little girl to get back at a U.S. Senator. Her shining, albeit brief career came to an end when she contacted Professor Xavier and the X-Men, who then helped her to fake her own death.

However, shortly after she came to Xavier’s Academy, Alexis began to lose faith in Professor Xavier and his dream, due to the fact that he sought to use the skills and knowledge she’d obtained from the Triads by keeping her separate from the other students at the school and sending her on secret missions. Though she soon made it very clear that she had no desire to be his personal spy. When several of her fellow students were trapped in the clutches of Mojo and his murderous television programs, Alexis used Cerebro to get in contact with Gateway, a teleporting mutant. After traveling to Australia, she was put through the sweat, a traditional ritual which tests the strength of a person’s mind, body and soul. Alexis was tested, and passed. In so doing, she gained the favor of Gateway and his tribe and was given a sacred stone with which she could contact them if ever she needed their help. However, during the sweat, she had also received a vision of her fellow student Jace Bridger being killed. After passing the test, she was transported to Mojoworld by Gateway and managed to save the other students from being killed live on air in Mojo’s murder arenas.

Since then, she has embarked on an affair with Jace Bridger (a.k.a Shade) The depth of her feelings toward him remain undetermined, though he is the only person at the school whom she trusted enough to reveal her real name to. She also, on occasion, told him that she was in love with him. She also agreed to help him find/rescue an old friend of his from a former nemesis, named Montana Dave. To do this, Alexis called in a few of her old friends from her days in the underworld, a former assassin named Eve and a bounty hunter named Hunter. Alexis also contacted Gateway once again. This time to transport them to London. Presumably, Alexis agreed to help Shade so that she might protect him, as she was under the impression that Montana Dave was the man from her vision. However, when she saw him, this proved to be untrue. Immediately after returning from London, with Jace’s friend now relatively out of danger, Alexis was captured after Xavier’s School was attacked by a troop of Army soldiers, belonging to Operation Zero Tolerance. Though several other students were captured by Bastion and Operation Zero Tolerance as well, Alexis was the only mutant to be taken to Area 51 in the custody of a top-secret Government Unit. This unit, dubbed Unit Alpha, was designed specifically to capture and study mutants. Similar to the Sentinel Program, this was done in aid of eradicating all mutants.

Strangely though, this Unit actually employed mutants. One of these mutants was a shape-shifter, whom they used to replace Alexis for a short time. During her time at the compound, Alexis underwent rigorous training and mind altering. She also endured many painful tests and experiments. She was tortured for information about the other mutants at Xavier’s school, especially the construction and operation of Cerebro. It is not known exactly when or how, but somehow, a telepath employed in the unit managed to carve Alexis’ mind and personality in two, creating two completely opposite personalities inside her mind. One half representing the negative aspects of her personality, along with her training as an assassin and thief. This personality, referred to itself only as Simone, and curiously, only spoke Chinese. The other personality, referring to herself only as Lucia, was comprised of Alexis’ aptitude for music and gymnastics, along with her fluency in Italian and French. Strangely, Simone was far more advanced in the use of her powers than Alexis ever was, while Lucia had no knowledge of her powers at all. Though neither personality had any recollection of their fellow X-Men, or that they were ever a person called Alexis Montrose. After she was released from the compound to kill her teammates as Simone, Alexis underwent months of telepathic therapy, at the hands of The Avengers and later Professor Xavier. As a result yet another personality emerged. Calling herself Natasha, she seemed to be a combination of Simone and Lucia. She was the only personality that spoke English, and/or that had any recognition of the other students, most notably, her emotional connection to Jace.

In the months that followed, Natasha and Jace grew increasingly close, as in Natasha, Jace saw a side of her personality that Alexis had kept hidden. Though, a new problem emerged. Given to bouts of both extreme anger and/or depression, her personality would shift between Natasha, Lucia and Simone. Curiously, Natasha’s mood swings often triggered flashes of memory and/or emotion about her life. After embarking on an affair with Jace, Natasha became increasingly insecure about his past with Alexis, and began viewing herself as a parasite on Alexis’ life. This situation was only worsened when Beast and the Professor discovered that her mental state as deteriorating due to her consciousness being split into three parts. As all three personalities were seeking to grab control, the mental strain was causing her mind to tear itself apart slowly, which would inevitably result in her death. Shortly after the team relocated to San Francisco, Natasha began receiving expensive and extremely romantic gifts and messages from a man calling himself Terry. Though at the time, she had no idea of their history together, it became clear that they had once been more than friends. Among these gifts, were paintings he’d done of her in Venice, and a diamond necklace. Before long Natasha began seeing glimpses of her past with Terry much to the dismay of Jace. When one of the students at the school accidentally injured Jace during a Danger Room exercise, Natasha almost killed her in a fit of blind rage. Several of the students and teachers, including Jace, cornered her on the school grounds in an attempt to stop her. But it was Terry who eventually ended her rampage. This event had several repercussions. Not only did it act to affirm any suspicions that Terry was a mutant, but it also changed both the students’ and the teachers’ views on Natasha’s mutant abilities and/or deadliness. Having placed the whole of the North American continent and a large chunk of the South American continent into hypertime (albeit with Terry’s help) Natasha proved that her mutant potential was far beyond the estimations Professor Xavier had previously made of her development.

Natasha accompanied the team on a recent mission, in which several of the students were transported to Ancient Egypt with the aid of a machine built by Forge. This was done in an attempt to end the menace of Apocalypse, one of, if not the first and most dangerous mutants in existence. However, upon arrival in the past, Jace was kidnapped by a tribe known as the Shadow Riders, and brainwashed into thinking he was their leader. Strangely, their presence in the past had a strange effect on the mutant powers of several members of the team. Most notably was Gabriel Maple (a.k.a Pelayo) who’s powers altered completely. In Natasha’s case, her mutant abilities regressed in such a way, that she was only able to create an isolated bubble of hypertime by channeling her energies through her hands, in which everything was perfectly stationary. However, she was unable of decomposing said frozen elements, nor was she able to enter hypertime herself. Though this was apparently due to a combination of factors, one of which was an apparent lack of skill Natasha’s part as it would be revealed that Simone was able to use her powers as normal. During a battle with Chani (who would later become known as Apocalypse’ horseman Pestilence) Natasha was poisoned and fell into a comatose state. However, the battle brought her to the attention of Apocalypse himself, and he revived her temporarily as his horseman of Death. Luckily, Jace was able to break his hold on her after he risked his life and faced her in battle.

Now free of Apocalypse’s influence, Natasha fell back into her poison induced coma, where she remains. It has been theorized that there are a number of reasons why all attempts to revive her have failed miserably. The most plausible among these, would be that Natasha’s mental state has now deteriorated to such an extent that there simply isn’t enough of any one personality left inside her to govern conscious action. Presumably, this happened as a result of the poison in her system breaking down whatever force it was that was holding her mind together. Her salvation came, when Professor Xavier contacted an alien race called Shi’ar. The religion of this race, held a belief that two souls might be fused, in an ancient ritual called Umeur, and in so doing, achieve a higher state of consciousness. This ritual entailed that both of the aforementioned souls leave their corporal shells in the form of death, and be reborn together as one life-essence, housed in two separate bodies. The only logical choice for this was Jace, who instantly agreed to partake in the ritual, despite the obvious risks and consequences involved. One of said consequences, would be that Alexis’ root mind would be healed and reformed into its original state before Operation Zero Tolerance captured her.

After completing the ritual, Alexis and Jace were finally reunited. Immediately after completing the ritual, Alexis and Jace could instantly sense the change which resulted from their unique link. This change manifested itself in several ways. Most notably, a strong telepathic connection between the two of them, which has resulted in subsequent telepathic abilities. Presently, they cannot control these newfound abilities, and as a result alternate between states in which they can consciously turn their telepathic connection ‘on’ or ‘off’. When it is off, there appears to be no link between them. Ostensibly, their respective mutant abilities were unaltered by the ritual, though on one occasion, Alexis appeared to manifest Jace’s abilities in her sleep. It is unknown what long-term consequences may result from this link.
