Is it... John's not part of the fog of London? I (think I) remember Holmes talking about it in the books.

this is beautiful, the linework is gorgeous and makes me think of traditional chinese paintings. was this the intention?
the only think I have to remark on is that I find the text on top of everything a bit distracting. I think it would work better either without it altogether, hand written, or somehow worked into the swirls of the fog.

I love the idea of London as air...then John must be air/earth/water and fire combined
