Rat infested basement and bums camping right outside.
Resonant stairwells and the freight elevator.
Omnipresent smell of urine and no ac.
Most stunning rooftop view.
Loud fridge and gun shots at night.
Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam,
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home.

Outside of the satelite dish & modern skyscrappers, this image has the look & feel of a stagnant movie backdrop circa late 1940's & 1950's. Great comment, btw! Really paints a wonder picture in itself. I haven't been through skid row in a few years, but I know the area well!

i truly can't stand the city... but whatever floats someones boat i guess.
the urine line reminds me of how after 1 week of being in a country (nicaragua? i can't remember), i realized that half the 'puddles' i was walking through in the cities were piss puddles. Sandles too. Yeah, I'm thick.
8 weeks later went back into costa rica (been there a month before going to nica) i noticed the same thing going on in the cities there, just not as bad. I wonder how many puddles i fred astaired through.
