Sadly didn't get to fully finish this one since I'm still a bit busy, but it'd have been a shame to leave this one in the drafts.
I tried cel shading (with just small blends here and there), as I believe this is the style I want to focus on. I think the simplicity of it works very well in the right compositions and most definitely is much easier than realistic rendering haha.

It should be a crime how little references there are for box braids in drawn styles! I tried figuring it out by myself and though I didn't end up fully rendering it the way I wanted to (reflective colors, shades, highlights, etc.) I think I got the form and volume down. I attempted drawing box braids in the past but got too hung up on the individual braids which ended up taking way too long. Once I figure out the best way to simplifiy the process as best as possible it should make the whole thing a lot easier. This time was certainly a lot smoother ^^

Anyway, in case you're wondering why I add lengthy explanations to these, it's mostly so I have something to look back on down the line HAHA
