Pecan giggled, before the rumbling of his own tummy came up as well. He huffed and tossed the keys down. "How do we know w-we can trust you and not get... Um, tossed out the window again?".

Pecan was hesitant. He looked to Phil and asked, "What do you think, Phil?".

Phil thought for a bit. “...we might as well trust him- he’s wanting us to talk things out.”

Pecan nodded. He took a preemptive step up onto his hand. He did ask out of curiosity, "W-what is your name?".

“Waylon. Sorry again about my roommate- he’s kind of a prick.” Phil nodded as he climbed up onto the hand.

Pecan chuckled at that. "That's putting it nicely...". He awaited the trip to the kitchen, hoping the biggun kept his word.

Waylon carried them to the kitchen, setting them down on the counter. “Anything you in the mood for?”

Pecan thought for a moment. "We didn't really eat anything today, did we? Ummm, do you have strawberries?".

“Strawberries... yeah, I think we do.” Waylon went over to the fridge, pulled out a large strawberry, and prepped it for their consumption. He put down a row of strawberry slices that were as big as watermelon slices to the small boys.

Pecan smiled widely and grabbed one, chowing down instantly. Waylon seemed to be a pretty cool guy so far.

Phil also took a slice, biting into it. Waylon smiled. “I’ll go get Francis, so we can talk things out.”

Pecan gulped his slice down, albeit a bit out of nervousness. What would Francis think of their plot to kerplunk the keys in the creek?

“...don’t worry, I won’t tell him about your plan. He’s in much more trouble.” With that, Waylon left the two borrowers alone.

Pecan looked to Phil. "What do you think's gonna happen?".

“Hopefully something that benefits us...” Phil replied, giving a sticky yet comforting smile towards Pecan.

“...why did you wake me up? It’s past midnight; I have work in the morning!” a voice grumbled from the hallway. Waylon returned to the kitchen, with a groggy Francis in tow. Francis’s eyes popped open when he saw the two borrowers. “Wh-wh-what are they doing here!?”

Pecan huddled close to himself, trying to shrink away from the angry gaze of Francis.

“You didn’t tell me that they were kids, Francis. We aren’t throwing out kids.”
“And orphans. Don’t forget orphans,” Phil chimed in.

Pecan tried to pitch in as well. "We didn't get any food at all except these strawberry slices too!".

“Look, I know you’re a neat freak, but this is my parents’s house. I have the ability to kick you out. And I know you won’t want to go back to your parents. So, either you let them stay, or you’re the one leaving.”
Phil clapped. “That was amazing. Just plain amazing.”

“Waylon, they’ve been stealing from us.”
“Probably because they don’t have any way to get things for themselves.” Waylon looked down at the boys. “Would you two be willing to work with us to make sure we can live well together?”

Pecan nodded vigorously. "I don't wanna walk through town on frog season...".

“Frog season? What- never mind. Anyway, I suggest that you two put together a list of stuff you want, and we can get it for you. That sound good?” Phil gave an apprehensive nod.

Pecan nodded as well. "I don't see a-anything wrong with that... What do you think we need Phil?".

“Hmm... headphones, some more cloth, maybe a couple of oatmeal cream pies for later...”
“Sounds good. Now, Francis, is there anything you’d like to say to these two?” Waylon turned to his roommate, who grumbled out an “I’m sorry”.

Pecan didn't meet Francis's eyes. He just nodded a quiet agreement. It really was pretty scummy what he did, so obviously Pecan isn't too thankful for that.

Phil felt the same way. “I accept your apology.” But don’t forgive you... he thought.
Waylon nodded. “Alright. Now, you two can finish eating. I’ll clean it up for you later.”

Pecan wasted no time in eating more strawberry. It was his favorite, and since he didn't have to worry about bigguns it was even better!

Phil also ate, while Waylon helped Francis back to bed. “So, guess we can halfway trust them.”

Phil made his way to the edge of the counter. “Got a grappling hook on you?”

Pecan nods. "Duh. I used it for the keys silly". He locks it onto the table ledge and tosses the rope down. He then begins to climb down it.
