Description
because we need to experiment sometimescooked this one up just to play around with effects and stuff. ghost rider has been one of the few Marvelites that i dig...and still do if done right. there's a certain allure to his supernatural origins and feel, and although i feel there's a lil "Sleepy Hollow/Headless Horseman" to him, the fact that you've got a biker dude with a flaming skull is just reason enough to be a badass...although ol GR went down fast and hard during that horrible Midnight Sons fiasco some time ago.
back to work for me.
see you guys!
comments are welcome as always! thanks!

Another great piece, Mark.
And the Green Skull? That reminds me of Bruce Wayne: Agent of SHIELD
But now, tell me, why don't you like many Marvel charcters?

glad you liked the Green coloring over Ghost Rider. yeah, the Amalgam universe was just fun. i actually have a piece in the sketchpad just waiting to be inked!
oh, it's not that i don't like Marvel characters. i think it's more of that i shared most of my comics years with DC...hey, Batman was the first ever comic i got (thanks to my dear uncle who went missing a decade ago), and there was the Superfriends cartoons way back in the 80s. so, i guess it was more of a first come, first served basis for me. although i dropped some other titles like Flash, Superman, etc...i stayed faithful to Batman.
even when i almost gave up on comics, i kept picking up Vertigo books whenever i could.
now, i haven't been totally out of the loop in terms of Marvel. i did pick up Bendis+Maleev's fantastic Daredevil run (and i'm actually gonna be checking out Brubaker+Lark's work), also catching up with Ennis's Punisher. i used to have the Millar Ultimate X-men trades but sold them off. i think, in terms of Marvel, i gravitate towards the more "realistic" titles. although i do fancy some other books that are in the superhero genre as well, but not enough to purchase (as we talked bout before, money is a big factor). oh, and i also have the complete EarthX collection (although that's bound to get sold as well)...so yeah, there's no dislike for Marvel. after all, they are the House of Ideas!

I loved the Dark Claw and Speed Demon (mmh, Larroca art). I was at an age when I was still young and inexperianced when it comes to comics marketing schemes and I was annoying my then FLGS when the second issues would be coming out (I had no idea that those were linked to Marvel VS DC at that time).
I see your point, the first heroes one encounters are usually the ones that get unquestioned loyalty.
I think my first comic was Batman too (in Polish, the villains were Catwoman and Catman) but the bug didn't bite me until my dad bought me an issue of the Claremont/Lee X-Men run (where Wolverine is standing over the falling corpse of Xavier). After that my soul was done...
Generally reading comics is far easier when one's a kid. The question of 'universes' or 'companies' never arises. Superman can Battle against He-Man in a castle made of Lego, and it's all peachy. Nobody claims that their favourite universe or company is superior to the others, because those things don't matter to kids. It's all just interesting and fascinating and I think it's a great ideal to aspire to, when one's a comic fan.
(I was trying to make a point, but I think I somehow got derailed...)

It might've been my age, but I loved the whole concept. I'm really sorry that they didn't do much else with it. I know it was just a sales stunt, but, oh, what I'd give to read an ongoing Amalgam series.

yeah...those titles were just fun. they even had that ALL ACCESS title where DC and Marvel shared publishing duties, with creators from both teams pitching in...and the characters get to cross over.
but i think a lil competition makes the whole industry better. when they were doing the Amalgam thing, stories+art became a lil so-so...but when they went back to fierce fight mode, wow! we all got like the second renaissance of sorts. both companies, and almost every other publisher, matured and came out more prolific, experimental and just damn good! so yeah, cheers to competition! it brings out the best in us all!

Yeah, I still have them, or at least the German translation. I loved how Dr. Strangefate was the antagonist (at least in the first series).
Compentition is good, there's no denying of it. But considering that comics are a quite small field, I'd like it more if the competition was a little more friendly (as I'd love to read Bendis' Batman/Daredevil).

hahahah! the fabled Bendis Batman/Daredevil urban legend. yeah, i think the talented Mr. Maleev was also penned to illustrate that one...gosh, gotta have me some good ol Alex Maleev magick again! love this duo's Daredevil! solid!!!

I only read the last two stories of their run, Decalogue and the one after that, as that was when I was getting back into comics. Strangely Daredevil has never managed to grab my interest, so I didn't bother to grab the trades of what came before.

i've got most of the bendis-maleev run...(only missing Hardcore + King of Hell's Kitchen i think)...i really didn't feel any love for Daredevil, and i stayed away from the Marvel Knights version eventhough i was hearing very awesome reviews and praise bout it...so when i chanced upon Lowlife (which was at a 20% off sale at the time) i gave the book a try, and fell in love with it, resulting to me purchasing the trades whenever i see em. it's basically a superhero running round the real world...like i said previously, i think i'm more drawn to the "grounded" marvel stuff! i mostly let me non-comic friends read a volume, and it usually gets good reviews from em. so i think the title works!
