Description
The Shavi mutation affects black pigmentation in the horse's coat. The mutation changes the black hair to a more blue sheen. In coats with only black points (such as Bay or Buckskin,) the only hairs affected are those in the points. In coats that are base black with modifiers, it changes the coat to a more purple-ish color.The Shavi mutation does not appear on red horses. However, in certain coats that also contain the red gene, it will change the coat color to a more pink-purple color, while the black points will be a more blue-purple.
nShv = nondominant Shavi
ShvShv = dominant Shavi
Red horses can be carriers of the Shavi gene with either nShv or ShvShv
