Though the reason why their epidermis looks shiny is because of a mucus like material they coat themselves in, allowing them to squeeze and move their soft and squishy bodies into small spaces with ease. In this state their body warmth is more exposed to the outside, could make objects become hotter when they touch something of course. Though without any armor they seem like a whole new species, a harmless one at that.

50% armor: All kinds of chromians wear something called a “skin suit”. Which is an artificially made secondary layer of epidermis that acts as their clothing, not only they use this to keep their body warmth on the inside and preventing it from making other objects super warm, but they use it to stick to the inside of their exoskeletons in their 100% armor state thus making them more flexible when in combat.

100% state: we all know what these exoskeletons can do, so you and I can take a guess that these are used to eliminate targets of any kind with ease.
