Sym sat outside on a clear evening. The truck carrying her new Futurity filly had yet to come in. She had been waiting for almost 4 hours after the time it was supposed to come in. She started to wonder if she got ripped off by someone, but was sure that it couldn't be the stables she bought it from. Sym checked her phone again, 6:45 pm. She let out a frustrated sigh before heading back inside.
*Ring* *Ring* *Ring*
Sym awoke to the night watch ring tone on her phone. She looked at the clock before she answered the phone, 5:24 am.
"Hello?" she answered rolling over on her back,
"Sym? A shipping truck just pulled in, they have a horse for you." Connor, one of Sym's night watch personal. The 17 yr old boy was always one she could rely on.
"Ok, I'll me down in 5." she took the phone from her ear and ended the call before sitting up and throwing some pants and a shirt worthy of 5am Montana March weather.
"Sym? Kenneth groaned as he rolled over after hearing her moving around.
"Filly's here." She got a grunt of recognition from him before he fell back asleep. She gave an airy chuckle before heading out. The cold mountain air slammed against her as she opened the front door. It took her a moment before dashing out. She hopped on the Polaris and drove out to the barn.
Upon arriving at the barn, Sym could see a large 18 wheeler as well as two of her night watchers standing and talking to the driver.
"Well good morning to ya!" the shipper greeted Sym as she walked up to their group. He gave her a little flirty wink.
"Good morning to you as well. Would you be so kind as to open the trailer up so we can get our horse out?" Sym asked, paying no mind to the man's advances. The guy nodded before walking over to one of the side doors and unlatching the two doors up top.
"Connor go and open stall 16, and make sure the door to the run and pasture is open so that way she can go out with the other two fillies and Star if she'd like. She was quarantined before she came so she should be ok, plus every horse has a two week stay at any airport coming in from over seas." Connor nodded his head before walking into the barn to get the stall ready. Soon after the shipper had opened all the doors and walked up to Sym.
"Would you like some help with her? she is a spitfire foal, with a whole lot of attitude." the man puffed himself up, Sym raised an eyebrow.
"No, I'll be fine." The man gave her a weird look.
"Ok lady, if you say so." Jason, one of the other night watchers handed her a lead rope and stepped back, with a smug smile on his lips as he watch Sym walk into the trailer.
"Well hello, little one." Sym spotted her chestnut filly almost immediately. The small filly had one tiny white mark on her nose, but other than that she was clean. The filly perked right up to the females voice, she let out a tiny whinny in greeting.
"Well, aren't you just as friendly as ever." Sym let out a giggle before clipping the lead rope to the filly and leading her out of the trailer. Once they got down off the trailer Sym let the filly stand and take in her new surroundings. The shipper quickly walked to close up the trailer before handing the papers to Sym.
"Hope to see you again>" he smiled, Sym gave a forced smile back.
"I'm sure my husband would love you meet you." She had to stifle a laugh as the man turned ask grey and about ran to his truck. Jason was already on the ground.
"What did I miss?" Connor asked as he came back out. That's when Sym couldn't hold it anymore.
"Nothing, come on lets get this pretty thing into the barn and get her settled." Sym, still chuckling, let both horse and boy into the barn, completely confused as to why their boss/owner was laughing and the other guy was dying on the ground."
--
"What's her name?" Jason asked after they had gotten her settled and they had all calmed down.
"Morality of Monarchy" Sym said as they watched the filly float around her new stall.
"Wow that was fast, normally it takes a few days for you t name any horses that come here." Connor turned to the two, resting his side on the stall door.
"That's because it is not mine. One of the conditions of the sale was that I keep her name. However, that is not stopping me from putting our brand on her." Both guys nodded.
"Alright well it is currently 6:45 am, and I don't have to do anything till 12 pm today so I am going to get some more shut-eye. Good night fellas!" Sym called after them as she walked out of the barn.
"Night Boss!" they responded before going and doing one last check before the morning crew came in.
