Clay is a female meerkat who left her clan after blaming herself for the death of her mother when she failed to spot a cheetah that was stalking the clan while she was on guard duty, resulting in her mother being killed.

Four days after leaving, Clay was out foraging when she crossed paths with a lone female jackal, Lamestride. With no bolt holes around, she expected her to attack her, but she couldn't because of her injured hind leg. When they took pity on each other after explaining why they were alone, they quickly bonded and became friends.

Clay now lives in a burrow not too far away from Lamestride and Nimble's pack, and she sometimes helps them chase away intruders while they in turn provide her with food whenever she can't find any herself.
