So the storyconcept for these two is Fernand's Spanish, Carim's Arab, and they first met as soldiers on opposing sides of a battlefield, and probably one wounded the other or something, but ultimately they gained great respect for each other through their confrontation, and decided to bro it up and desert their armies in search of booty under Shin-Fa. Very cookie-cutter, yes, but hey, it's kinda nice, isn't it? See how they wore the symbol of each other's religion as a token of respect? I think it's kinda nice.
