maybe its cuz I watched up until the new girl came in who took over the leaf village, the backstories are interesting from what I saw. But yea, from what I saw they always won, did I not watch far enough to really get a sense of the anime.. I was like at least 100 episodes in XP

Oh, okay. Well, you DEFINITELY need to watch more. If you stopped at around 100 episodes, you are missing out on the best arc. I don't want to spoil, so I can't tell you what it's about, but many people love this certain story arc and say it's the best!
