It's else, dear. 
I get that you want the chainmail magic-hoodoo thing to work, but let's be honest here. They don't do anything beyond irritating or aggravating or, in some cases, scaring the living daylights out of the people who receive them.
(I swear, if I see that " I'm kylie and I live underground" thing on any of my art...)
That, and even if it did, beyond all rational thought, worked, what would you get? Just a kiss. Not their love, their trust, or even just some respect and acknowledgement, but a kiss.
And how would that even work? Would they be compelled against their will to love you? (That would DEFINITELY freak anyone out, not to mention be seriously creepy. That, and on the inside, I would imagine they would be seriously pissed. I know I would be.) Would they forget about you entirely after you got that one kiss, thus leaving you lonelier than before?

I'd tell you about all the stories I know of when someone just HAD to use magic instead of just talk to the person, but there's no sense in giving you nightmares.
Personally, I would rather not annoy my fellow deviants with chain mail that would probably not work or go horribly awry, and just go talk to them. What's the worst that can happen? ^^ They can just say no, and yes, that would suck. (And maybe they'd be a total jerk about it, but you know what: if they are, then they don't deserve you.)
But maybe, they might actually like you, and you won't have to worry about magic gone awry or it being just because of some internet hoodoo. ^^
