Description So I knew that alot of my drawings, my characters, looked more American than Japanese. Well, at the time, I had only ever been in the USA. But the thought occured to me after I'd been surrounded by nihonjin for a few months, what if I tried to draw Anna from the Friends story as if she were actually Japanese.
TA DA!!
The resemblance is thin. It's funny how manga portrays many of the characters with hair that isn't black or traditional, when in Japan, the rules in most schools disallow coloration of hair and even regulate the cut as well! After a while, everyone looks the same and it's only in the face where you can really tell the difference. I see how difference in hair color and style is necessary in order to differentiate characters from each other. It still makes me laugh though. And after they graduate, most of the Japanese Youth really go all out with trying to look different and stand out from the crowd. Then they all end up looking the same again. Then again, it's nice to be able to tell the difference between a student and a graduate.

Still in Koga, Ibaraki Japan. Mechanical pencil
