"(Y/N)!" Kyo called out as your feet were leading you home.

You turned around with wide eyes. Kyo rarely called for you. You two had been friends for quite a while, but he never showed any need or want for you during that time. You never admitted that it hurt you. Or that you wanted him to want you, but that was another anchor you tried to throw to the back of your mind.

Nonetheless, you set a smile on your face and waved as his running figure came closer to you.

"Hey, what's up?" you asked, your heart thumping.

You didn't know what it was, but whenever he talked to you, you could feel your heart beating heavily in your chest.

And you didn't like it at all. It made your hands clammy and your body numb. It made you stutter and it made you lose track of everything around you.

"I need your help," Kyo stated, his breathing irregular.

"Huh? Is this Kyo Sohma asking me for help," you replied, sarcasm stitched in your words.

He rolled his eyes, crossing his arms.

"You're my best friend, alright? Who else am I supposed to go to?"

"Hm, Tohru? She is your girlfriend."

You felt your body shiver as you said those words. You hated labeling Tohru as Kyo's girlfriend.

Tohru Honda was probably the nicest girl you have ever met, and that only made you hate her more. She was perfect for Kyo, someone you wanted to be.

"Well, she's the problem."

"What?"

Anticipation grew in your stomach. Have they broken up? No, they're so happy together.

Oh my god, what if he's proposing?

Or what if he-

"We're going on a date tonight."

Nevermind.

"Oh!" you said to him, a little too loudly while letting out a nervous laugh.

"Are you alright?"

"W-What? Yeah, sorry. I was thinking about something." You breathed out another shaky laugh.

"Anyways, I don't know where to bring her," he said, shaking off your abnormal behavior.

"And how would I know where you should bring her?"

"You're a girl, aren't you?"

"No, Kyo. I'm a man...Of course I'm a damn girl!"

"Exactly! So where would you wanna go for a date?"

"That depends on who I'm with."

"What if you were with me?"

Your breath hitched.

"Uh..."

You felt you cheeks flare slightly as you stared at him. You noticed similar marks on his face just like yours. The awkwardness grew around you both.

"B-But don't take that the wrong way!" he yelled, putting his hands frantically.

You chuckled nervously yet again.

"W-Well if I were dating you..." you started, looking at the ground.

You could feel his eyes burn into you, making you sweat a little.

Why were you so nervous?

"...I would want you to take me to a festival."

"A festival?"

"A festival," you repeated, looking up at him.

Your cheeks heated up a little more.
You felt like you were confessing to him, like you were telling him to bring you on a date. Like you were telling him your fantasies about your imaginary relationship with him.

"Do you think Tohru would like that?"

Your heart dropped.

"I-I'm sure she would," you told him, your smile painted on your face, "the summer festival has been going on this week, so it's perfect."

"Maybe I will bring her there, but don't tell anyone that I talked about this, alright?" He crossed his arms and looked away.

You sighed. This conversation was exhausting. It was killing you, but you had to be the best friend you were.

"I should g-"

"(Y/N)! Kyo!" a voice called out, interrupting your goodbye.

Kyo's eyes lit up at the person behind you. You turned around to see Tohru waving at the both of us with a huge grin. You grinned back, waving politely.

Kyo walked past me and took her hand. Your smile faded and you hand slowly returned back to your side as Tohru blushed and was led closer to you by Kyo's hold.

"It's nice to see you, (Y/N)!" she greeted.

"Y-Yeah, it's nice to see you too. I-I should be going now, I'm being expected by my mother," you lied to the couple, pushing past them as you feet quickened their pace.

You felt tears build in your eyes.

Why does this hurt so much?

Why does this feel so wrong, seeing them together?

Why am I feeling this way?

I should be happy for him.

I should be glad that he's found a girl.

Shouldn't I be?
