Although this may be a somewhat disturbing scene to some. It's a scene that represents wild animals doing what they need to do to survive. Sometimes animals are given exaggerated reputations. In the case of the wolf their reputations seem to be overblown on both sides of the fence. Some are overly negative portraying them as bloodthirsty monsters that kill for fun and offer great threats to humans. Others in my opinion are overly-idealistic making wolves out to be these mystical creatures that prance through the forest that wouldn't harm another creature. To me wolves are just animals trying to make their way in the world. They kill to survive and in turn allow the survival of countless other animals that feed on their kills. They keep populations of other animals in check. They are an extremely important part of the ecosystem Keeping things in balance. Anyways, I just like this photo because I feel like it portrays a pretty realistic look at the wolf.

Awsome shot, I assume this one was taken with the other two, or else you get to see a lot of wolf kills. That wolf on the left looks giant. maybe 100+ pounds

I understand what you mean Nate, although I'd much rather prefer the "Magical mystical prancing wolf" idea to the "Bloodthirsty man-eating let's go kill them" idea :c
LoL anyway, I like this picture and I like that you'd rather portray animals the way they are rather than fancy them up into something they're not :3

Very nice. I love wolves, but I agree many people have false views of them. They are predators. Nothing less, nothing more.

Id never understood why people looked at them like they were the devil. They keep populations in balace, there just animals making there way here in the world.
problably 90% of the world hate, scratch that, dispice them for being predators. At least you understand...

I love this image and you're very right about people's portrayals of them. People just exaggerate things.

I agree with your perceptions. I live in Wyoming where it is still a HOT debate...I do think people like to glorify wolves like some fantastical creature than can do no wrong, and like you said, others portray them as heathens and deamons ready to eat our hearts out. There MUST be a balance of opinions, facts, and portrayals--that's what wolves provide, and we are failing them at doing the same.

They are kind of like an American Version of African Lions to me, opportunistic, cooperative, large family groups and can be both dangerous and docile, what ever the situation requires of them. I will always LOVE wolves, but that doesn't come without constant respect of what they are capable of.

GREAT SHOT! I'd like to do this one day too, stalk them with a camera and capture their nature on film...I love your work!

As soon as I saw this photo I thought of the Sanchez Brothers from Montreal. They created a huge installment based off very similar subject matter.
I think you've done an excellent job of capturing the moment especially with your timing to get the one wolf just as he's noticing your presence. I can't emphasize enough, how great this photo is.

I completely agree also. But I don't find anything disturbing about it, it's nature. Something must die in order for something to live.

Instant . Great photo.

For me wolves are somewhat magical - as an embodiment of natural balance. And part of that balance is that they kill to eat. I love their simplicity... and their ability to hunt in quite complicated ways.

I like what you wrote about the wolf. So true. It is the same with dolphins and some other animals. Some people will hate them, trying to kill them no matter what and others think they are mystical, gods, or even as intelligent as humans.
I wonder why we cannot let animals be as they are and accept them as what they are instead of inventing horror stories or fairy tales about them.

That is a beautifuly natural picture, I've got to see wolves but only at a sanctuary where they're in a large pen (I live in the UK so we don't have wild wolves anymore unfortunately). I had so much chance to get alot of very natural photo's like this when I went to Australia but I wasn't as interested in photography back then as i am now. I would really love someday to be able to visit yellowstone someday, simply for the chance to see a scene like this with my own eyes.

It's true that some people think of wolves as mystical etc. but it's not always a bad thing, considering it drives many of those to help save these endangered species from less intelligent people who seek to destroy them for no other reason than a desire to kill living things.

I totally agree with you. And the picture does so, too. It perfectly shows the balance between those mystified (yet glorified^^) wolves on the one hand - and the brutal, bloodthirsty ogres on the other hand. It just looks so naturally. Yeah, I think it's just the pure nature. Eat or be eaten...
