Description
To Purchase this image as an exclusive limited edition print, please click HEREIt's only the middle of october, but the wind on the high alpine tundra carries winter on its breath. A bull elk and his harem spend the morning grazing on whats left of the grasses of an extremely short summer. Longs Peak, one of Colorado's most famous "fourteeners" is already covered in a blanket of snow. Low lying clouds, caused by temperature inversion, are stuck in the lower valleys, completing as perfect a scene as I can imagine.

This is honestly one of the best pictures I've ever seen. The muted colors, the almost-silhouettes of the elk, the low-lying clouds, and the incredible detail in the foreground and in the mountains: this shot has all of those, plus I really, really like the composition/cropping. Whether that was an in-camera decision or after-the-fact, there is just enough sky and just enough ground to give a sense of space while not detracting from the two focal points (the elk and mountains). The depth of field is perfect as well and further pushes that sense of space.
If I had a spare $525, I would purchase this as a 24" by 36" print from your site in a heartbeat.
