Description Finally ! I finally finished my entry for TheQuiet-Llama 's contest, called "Colours of the Deep". The main purpose of this contest was to create something colour focused with a squid or an octopus as the main subject.
For more information about the contest, here is the link to the contest journal : fav.me/d9c0k46

I really enjoyed working on that work. The idea of drawing an giant octopus as a pillar guardian came to my mind really quickly. I don't know why, but the idea looked really badass for me. It was my first time drawing an octopus, but it was less difficlut than I thought it would be.

I drew the main octopus using photo references of the "coconut octopus", which scientific name is "Amphioctopus marginatus". The redish colours of this octopus catch my eyes and I found it perfect for this colour focused work.
The little pink octopuses are based on a new octopus specie, discovered recently, with no formal name yet. For the moment, it is called the "octopus adorabilis" because, yeah, they're really cute.
The character on the bottom-right side of the picture is my underwater warrior (here her own drawing -> fav.me/d8tuz9s ). She is asking for an audience with the Pillars Guardian, to ask for some kind of blessing.

Well, I hope you like it !

Looks like the kraken pulling Atlantis down into the deeps. Great work!

Stunning work on the pillars! Absolutely gorgeous details, and I love the light play. The babies are a nice touch as well, especially with the ones closest to the screen blurred, the way they would be if we were actually present in the water looking past them. It's a great touch of realism. The coloring on them reflecting their proximity to the light is well done also, with the possible exception of the one at the base of the pillar to the summoner/warrior's right. But I do love the way that the tentacles are wrapped about the pillars.

Brilliant work - thanks for sharing, and good luck in the contest! (if the host ever signs back in to their account....)

Wow   what a wonderful piece! The colors in it are fantastic! The light blue designs on all the pillars reminds me of Atlantis
The baby octopi swimming around are great I love how you made the closer ones out of focus to really give the picture some depth! And is one of them accompanying the underwater warrior?
I guess the only thing that could be better about this picture is if you made the warrior pop out of that glow more, because honestly I didn't see her until I read the description
love it though!

Wahou, I appreciate the comparaison with Atlantis, it is one of my personal favorite Disney movie and I love the design so much !
Yes, there is one little octopus accompanying the warrior, to show her the way to the giant red octopus ^^

Thanks for your comment about the warrior, I will keep it in mind !
